Using Quick Start to provision VMs after you deploy BMC Compact RDS

The Quick Start wizard-based UI simplifies configuration for BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management and BMC Compact RDS as described in the following sections:

Purpose of Quick Start

Using Quick Start, you use wizards to provide a limited number of configuration settings. All other configuration necessary to provision VMs is automated, including configuration of underlying BMC products such as BMC Server Automation and BMC Network Automation.

When the Quick Start wizards are complete, BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management is ready to fulfill end user requests for automated provisioning of VMs. The BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console reflects the configuration settings made in Quick Start.

Quick Start is designed to address straightforward provisioning needs. If you require more complex configurations, you may need to use the full set of tools that BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management offers. Alternatively, you can perform some simple provisioning with Quick Start and then modify the configuration using the full capabilities of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.

Note

You cannot use Quick Start to modify existing configurations. BMC does not recommend you use BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management to modify configurations already created in Quick Start and then attempt use those configurations again in Quick Start.

Quick Start configuration process

The following diagram illustrates the basic steps for configuring BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management by using Quick Start. QSConfigure_revised4.png

Before you begin

Before starting Quick Start, perform the following tasks:

  1. Install and configure RSCD on the target vCenter.
  2. Make sure that the target template is ready with the RSCD agent.
  3. Make sure that the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management setup is up and running.
  4. For AWS, make sure that the Amazon certificates and AMI ID are available for configuration.
  5. Make sure that the network device username/password and Network IP range information are available.
  6. Make sure that the Network VLAN ID is available on the switch that you are planning to use for Management and Customer settings.
  7. For Amazon EC2 and for Tenant management, enabled Allow Unqualified Searches option from Server Information > Configuration tab in ITSM Foundation.

  8. Because Quick Start creates its own policies that may conflict with existing policies, set the conditions for those policies to Match Any if you already defined any policies in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, you must  For more information, see Creating-and-managing-policies.

Accessing Quick Start

From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and then click Quick Start. The Quick Start welcome page opens. Selecting options on the welcome page starts wizards that step you through the following processes:QuickStartWelcome.gifThe See All link on the Quick Start welcome page displays the Quick Start home page (shown below), which provides another way of accessing Quick Start capabilities. The layout of the home page mirrors Quick Start functionality in earlier releases. Although you access the same functionality from either interface, this space describes Quick Start from the perspective of the Quick Start welcome page shown above.QuickStart.gifIf you are performing the Quick Start process using the Quick Start home page (rather than the welcome page), note the green checks beside each step. When you complete a step, a green check indicates you have successfully generated that type of content. If the step fails, a red icon appears instead. However, if you later refresh the page and that type of content already exists in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management (possibly from other actions in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management), a green check appears to denote the existence of that type of content.
