Meeting requirements for Linux product hosts

This topic lists the hardware and software requirements, and the tasks that you must perform before you install the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution on Linux. The requirements outlined in this topic apply to all deployment types. For more information about product-specific hardware requirements per deployment type, see Deployment-architecture.

This topic contains the following sections:

Requirements for installing all Linux product hosts

  1. Ensure that the system time is the same on the following product hosts:
    • BMC Remedy AR System & BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite
    • BMC Remedy AR System – Cloud Database
    • Cloud Platform Manager
    • BMC Atrium Orchestrator – Configuration Distribution Peer
    • BMC Atrium Orchestrator – Configuration Distribution Peer (HA)
  2. Ensure that the BMC Server Automation Remote Server Call Daemon (RSCD) Agent is not installed on any target host.
  3. Install a web browser on any host on which you want to access the mid tier. 
    For more information about the version of web browsers to install, see http://www.bmc.com/support.

  4. For products that require an Oracle client, you must install the following packages:

    All the packages listed are required for an Oracle client.

  5. Install the following packages on your BMC Remedy AR System and IT Service Management Suite, BMC Remedy AR System – Cloud Database, Atrium Core Web Registry, BMC Server Automation, and BMC Network Automation product hosts:
    1. Install the following 32-bit and 64-bit RPMs:

    2. To ensure that the BMC Remedy AR System services start, install the compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686.rpm RPM package.
    3. To ensure that the RSCD Agent installs properly, install the compat-libtermcap-2.0.8-49.el6.x86_64.rpm package.
    4. From the /usr/lib folder, verify that the libstdc++.so.5 library exists. Install the library if it does not exist.
    5. To verify if the RPM is installed, enter the following command:
      rpm -q "<rpm_name>"
     
  6. (Optional) Install SAP BusinessObjects XI R 3.1 SP2 for reporting purposes.

BMC Remedy product requirements

This section lists the product-specific requirements for the BMC Remedy products.

BMC Remedy AR System and IT Service Management Suite – Primary

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 10526 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 10 GB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64 bit)
  • Oracle JRE 1.6. update 31
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database
  • For remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit client with Administrator installation type (ensure that the installation includes oracle utilities such as imp).
  • Review the required list of packages to install this product.

BMC Remedy AR System – Cloud Database Primary

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 5223 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 2935 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database
  • For remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit client with Administrator installation type (ensure that the installation includes oracle utilities, for example, imp).
  • Oracle JRE 1.6. update 31
  • Review the required list of packages to install this product.

BMC Remedy AR System Server Cloud Database – Secondary

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 5223 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 2935 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • Oracle JRE 1.6. update 31
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64 bit database (shares the database with BMC Remedy AR System Server - Cloud Database).
  • For remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64 bit client with Administrator installation type (ensure that the installation includes oracle utilities, such as imp).
  • Review the required list of packages to install this product.

BMC Remedy Mid Tier

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 360 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 2609 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • Oracle JRE 1.6. update 31

Product-specific requirements: Set the PATH environment variable on the mid tier host to jrePath/bin. 

BMC Remedy AR System & IT Service Management Suite – Secondary

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 10526 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 9064 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • Oracle JRE 1.6. update 31
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database (shares the database with BMC Remedy AR System & IT Service Mgt. Suite - Primary)
  • For remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit client with Administrator installation type (ensure that the installation includes oracle utilities, for example, imp).

BMC Atrium Core Web Registry requirements

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 6 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 1345 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 5223 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) orRed Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)

BMC Server Automation product requirements

This section lists the product-specific requirements for the BMC Server Automation products.

BMC Server Automation – Application Server & Console

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 745 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 1626 MB
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database

Product-specific requirements: 

  • Before you begin installing BMC Server Automation – Application Server & Console, ensure that port 9700 is available on the host on which you want to install the product.
  • Review the required list of packages to install this product.
  • Ensure that the libtermcap.so.2 RPM package is installed.

PXE Server (Optional)

Hardware and software requirements:

  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • 2 CPUs
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 46 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 1626 MB

Product-specific requirements: Ensure that the libtermcap.so.2 RPM package is installed.

BMC Server Automation – Advanced Repeater (Optional)

Hardware and software requirements:

  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • 2 CPUs
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 265 MB

BMC Server Automation – Multiple Application Server (MAS)

Hardware and software requirements:

  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database (shares the database with BMC Server Automation Application Server & Console)
  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 9 GB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 3 GB

Product-specific requirements: 

  • Before you begin installing BMC Server Automation – Application Server & Console, ensure that port 9700 is available on the host on which you want to install the product.
  • Ensure that the libtermcap.so.2 RPM package is installed.

BMC Server Automation – File Server (Optional)

Hardware and software requirements:

  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit) or Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory:  50 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory:  1 GB

Note

You require additional hard disk space for storage on the File Server.

BMC Server Automation – Remote System Call Daemon (RSCD) Agent

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 8 GB RAM

BMC Atrium Orchestrator product requirements

This section lists the product-specific requirements for the BMC Atrium Orchestrator products.

BMC Atrium Orchestrator – Configuration Distribution Peer

Hardware and software requirements:

  • Red Hat Linux 5.5 (64-bit)
  • 2 CPUs
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 590 MB 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 3598 MB

Product-specific requirements:

  • Install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Development Studio client so that you can export the IP Address Management (IPAM) modules to the BMC Atrium Orchestrator grid.  For more information, see Installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator Development Studio.
  • Ensure that the libtermcap.so.2 RPM package is installed.

BMC Atrium Orchestrator – Configuration Distribution Peer (HA)

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 590 MB

Product-specific requirements:

BMC Network Automation product requirements

This section lists the product-specific requirements for the BMC Network Automation products.

BMC Network Automation

This section lists the requirements for the following BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management components:

  • BMC ProactiveNet Data Collection Host

Hardware and software requirements:

  • 2 CPUs (for each product)
  • 4 GB RAM (for each product)
  • IPv4 address
  • Hard disk space: 
    • Installation directory: 16642 MB for Central Server and 11731 for Server 
    • Temp (tmp) directory: 9261 MB for Central Server and 9406 for Server
  • Red Hat Linux 6.2 (64 bit)
  • For local and remote databases: Oracle 11g R2 64-bit database

Product-specific requirements:

  • Before installing the BMC ProactiveNet Central Server on Red Hat Linux 6.2, you must stop the deployment of BMC Server Automation Application Server and the Console host:
    1. Use the BMC BladeLogic Agent to log on to BMC Server Automation.
    2. On the Configuration tab, click Infrastructure Management.
    3. Expand Application Servers.
    4. Right-click the default Application Server, and click Stop.

  • Ensure that you install the following (32-bit) libraries, which are required for BMC ProactiveNet Server, BMC ProactiveNet Data Collection Host, and BMC ProactiveNet Central Server.

    The 32-bit RPMs must be the same version as the most current 64-bit version of that RPM.
