Overview of the Appliance Provider


The Appliance Provider for BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management provides a template-based, agentless cloning solution. Use this solution for use cases where external third-party agents are not allowed by appliances, such as for security.

This custom provider facilitates the following use cases:

  • Provides preprovisioning hooks
  • Allows cloning from template
  • Assigns IP (private or public)
  • Provides postprovisioning hooks to configure the appliance

Typically you can use this provider to provision and configure the following device types:

  • Riverbed vSH (WAN Opt)
  • Cisco WAA (WAN Opt)
  • F5 LTM (Load balancer)
  • Riverbed Stingray (Load balancer)
  • Citrix NetScaler (Load balancer)
  • Citrix Access Gateway (Proxy)
  • Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance (Proxy)
  • Check Point Firewall
  • Check Point Multi-Domain Security Management

Key features of version 1.0.00 of the Appliance Provider

Version 1.0.00 of the Appliance Provider contains the following features:

  • Registers an Appliance Provider instance
  • Starts, stops, and decommissions provisioned VMs
  • Modifies memory and CPU values of provisioned VMs
  • Specifies multiple hypervisor server details
  • Provisions using BMC Atrium Orchestrator and BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Generic Adapter-Generic Provider (GA-GP) framework
  • Installs Appliance Provider on BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management
