Creating virtual desktop requests requiring approval


Using the VDI Orchestration ZipKit, you can create virtual desktop requests which are then directed to the IT Manager for approval. Complete the following procedures for request types requiring approval.

Add desktop to desktop group

You can create the following types of requests, which require approval by the IT Manager:

Click here to request a Pooled Random desktop.
  1. Log on to BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System) and select Applications > Service Request Management > Request Entry.
  2. Click Browse. This displays the available Cloud Services requests.

  3. In the Cloud-Services bar, click Sub-Categories. This filters the Desktop as a Service requests and lists them in the Available Requests pane.

  4. In the Available Requests, double-click or select Add Desktop to Desktop Group for Pooled Random with Approval. If selected, click Request Now.

  5. Enter the following details for requesting a Pooled-Random desktop:

    Field Name

    Values

    No. of Desktops

    You can select the no of desktops in the range of 1 to 20. Default value: 1 Note: You need to specify this only if you are requesting for a single (No. of Desktops = 1) virtual desktop. If the no. of desktop is greater than 1 then the request is generated for the Desktop Group, and you need to raise a separate request for adding a user.
    Incase of Pooled-Random all the requests will be generated for the Desktop Group.
    .

    Expiry Date

    Select the date when the desktop can be released.

    Operating System

    Select the type of operating system to be installed on the desktop from the available options.

     

     

  6. Click Submit.
    This will create a request for the Pooled-Random desktop.
Click here to request a Pooled Static desktop.
  1. Log on to BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System) and select Applications > Service Request Management > Request Entry.
  2. Click Browse. This displays the available Cloud Services requests.

  3. In the Cloud-Services bar, click Sub-Categories. This filters the Desktop as a Service requests and lists them in the Available Requests pane.

  4. In the Available Requests, double-click or select Add Desktop to Desktop Group for Pooled Static with Approval. If selected, click Request Now.

  5. Enter the following details for requesting a Pooled-Static desktop:

    Field Name

    Values

    No. of Desktops

    • You can select the no of desktops in the range of 1 to 20
      Default value: 1 
    • Specify whether you want the requested desktops to Add to Desktop or Add to Desktop Groups.
      Note: You need to specify this only if you are requesting for a single (No of Desktops = 1) desktop.
      If the no. of desktop is greater than 1 then the request is generated for the Desktop Group, and you need to raise a separate request for adding a user.

    Expiry Date

    Select the date when the desktop can be released.

    Operating System

    Select the type of operating system to be installed on the desktop from the available options.

  6. Click Submit.
    This will create a request for the Pooled-Static desktop.
Click here to request a Dedicated desktop.
  1. Log on to BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System) and select Applications > Service Request Management > Request Entry.
  2. Click Browse. This displays the available Cloud Services requests.

  4. In the Available Requests, double-click or select Add Desktop to Desktop Group for Dedicated with Approval. If selected, click Request Now.

  5. Enter the following details for requesting a Dedicated desktop:

    No. of Desktops

    • You can select the no of desktops in the range of 1 to 20
      Default value: 1 
    • Specify whether you want the requested desktops to Add to Desktop or Add to Desktop Groups.

      Note: You need to specify this only if you are requesting for a single (No of Desktops = 1) desktop.
      If the no. of desktop is greater than 1 then the request is generated for the Desktop Group, and you need to raise a separate request for adding a user.

    Select the date when the desktop can be released.

    Operating System

  6. Click Submit.
    This will create a request for the Dedicated desktop.
Click here to request an Existing desktop.
  1. Log on to BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System) and select Applications > Service Request Management > Request Entry.
  2. Click Browse. This displays the available Cloud Services requests.

  3. In the Cloud-Services bar, click Sub-Categories. This filters the Desktop as a Service requests and lists them in the Available Requests pane.

  4. In the Available Requests, double-click or select Add Desktop to Desktop Group for Existing Type with Approval. If selected, click Request Now.

  5. Enter the following details for requesting an Existing type desktop:

    No. of Desktops

    • You can select the no of desktops in the range of 1 to 20
      Default value: 1  
    • Specify whether you want the requested desktops to Add to Desktop or Add to Desktop Groups.

      If the no. of desktop is greater than 1 then the request is generated for the Desktop Group, and you need to raise a separate request for adding a user.

  6. Click Submit.
    This will create a request for an Existing desktop.

 

Approve or reject virtual desktops requests

As an IT Manager you can approve or reject the virtual desktop requests placed by the end user.

To approve or reject a virtual desktop request:

  1. Log on to the BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System) and select Quick Links > Approval Central.
    It displays the BMC IT Service Management Console.

  2. Click on the check-box to select the request pending for your approval.
  3. Click Approve or Reject button to approve or reject the selected request.
    This displays the selected requested details form:

  4. Enter the following details:
    1. Click on the drop-down to select the Catalog Name associated with this desktop type.

    2. Click on the drop-down to select the Group Name associated with the selected catalog.

  5. Click Submit. This will approve or reject the selected request.
    • Approve the selected request and set the Status as Approved.
