Configuring the deployment sequence (for the service deployment definition)

In the Deployment Sequence tab on the Service Deployment Definitions tab, you can specify the sequence in which applications and other blueprint elements are deployed.

When you open a blueprint in the Blueprint Editor, the deployment sequence is expressed in numerical form in the Sequence column. Elements that are deployed in parallel have the same sequence number. You can modify the sequence of any element using the procedure described below.

Network paths are automatically created immediately before any software is installed. You do not have to include network paths in the deployment sequence.

Note

Blueprint elements are assigned a default deployment sequence if the blueprint was defined in a release earlier than BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 3.1 or if you have never used the Deployment Sequence tab to modify the deployment sequence. The default deployment sequence is:

  1. Resource sets (in parallel)
  2. Network paths (if a network path is included)
  3. Functional components

To configure the deployment sequence (for the service deployment definition)

  1. In the Service Deployment Definition Name pane of the Service Deployment Definitions tab, select a service deployment definition.
  2. Click the Deployment Sequence tab. The tab lists blueprint elements to be deployed. The Sequence column shows the current deployment order for these elements. Elements that are deployed in parallel have the same sequence number.
  3. To reorder a blueprint element, select the element in the list and do one of the following:
    • Click the Move Up or Move Down arrows.
    • Click in the Sequence column and enter a sequence number.
  4. Click Save to save your changes.

    Note

    • When defining a deployment sequence, if you specify numbers that are not sequential, the system automatically adjusts the blueprint to make the numbers sequential when you save.
    • If a resource set is deleted from a deployment model or a functional component is deleted from a resource set, that resource set or functional component is removed from the list of elements in the deployment sequence when you save. A message announces that the sequence of remaining elements has been adjusted to account for the deletion.
