Service catalog enhancements

With BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 3.0.00, the following major changes have been made to the Service Catalog.

New deployment options

To expand the flexibility of the Service Catalog, new deployment options are available. Support for the following options to be processed during the provisioning of the VM was added.

Feature

Option description

Support for Additional Storage

This option allows you to add additional system disks to your service.

Support for Network Configuration

These options allow you to modify the network configuration to change the number of NICs, select the network a NIC will connect to, add load balancing or firewall rules.

Support for Installable Resource Selection

This option allows you to change the installable resource to use a different Amazon Machine Instance, System Package or Virtual Guest Package.

Support for Server Instance Count

This option allows you to change number of servers that will be deployed for your service.

New post-deployment options

In addition to deployment options, new post-deployment options are also now available. Support for the following options to an existing service was added.

Feature

Option description

Add Server to Existing

This option allows you to add servers to an existing service - typically used for horizontal scaling.

Add Storage to an Existing Service

This option allows you to add additional system disks to an existing service.

Add Software to an Existing Service

This option allows you to add a software package to an existing service.

Add a NIC to an Existing Service

This option allows you to add a new NIC to an existing service.

Improved service pricing

Three new features were added in 3.0 to improve service pricing.

Feature

Description

Multi-component pricing

With multi-component pricing, you can now define more than one pricing unit of measure for a service. For example, you may want to charge $10 an instance/month and also charge $1 per GB of storage/month.

Support for Allocation and Utilization Pricing

The new units of measure support both allocation- and utilization-based pricing. For example, if you are using thin-disk provisioning, you may want to charge the tenant based on the full allocation of 100 GB of disk space. Instead, you may decide that you want to only charge for the 20 GB of that 100 GB disk that are actually being used.

Integration with Chargeback

This version supports integration with BMC Capacity Optimization to provide Tenant-based Chargeback reports.
