Minimum requirements for VMware environments
This topic describes the minimum requirements for setting up the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution in a VMware environment.
System requirements
To use the solution in a VMware vSphere virtual environment, you must have the following minimum configuration:
- VMware ESX Host (version 3.0, 3.5, 3i, 4.0, 4i, or 5i)
- VMware vCenter Server (vSphere version 2.5, 4, 4.1, or 5.0)
Access and privileges
The permissions and privileges required for vCenter components and vCenter users are as listed in the following section:
- Application Server — The Application Server must have access to the web service on the target (the vCenter server) web service URL: https://<VirtualCenterName>:<port>/sdk.
- Agent — The agent must have administrative privileges. That is, the C:\windows\rsc\exports file should contain an entry such as:
'* rw, user=administrator'
- vCenter — BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management requires, at a minimum, read-only permission for all objects in vCenter. BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management must have administrative permissions for any areas to which you want to deploy, or areas that you might want to modify. For example, if you want to deploy new VMs for a specific cluster, you require:
- Read-only permissions for the entire vCenter
- Administrative privileges for the cluster (and any additional permissions needed to create VMs on the cluster)
vCenter user — The following privileges must be defined for the vCenter user:
Entity
Privileges for vCenter user

All privileges

Read access to all properties and configuration information for all the entities
Write access to create VMs on the required storageStorage
