Recommended snapshot and backup checkpoints

The following table lists the checkpoints where BMC recommends that you make virtual machine (VM) snapshots and database backups during the installation and post-installation process. Making these recommended backups and snapshots will help you to recover from a failed installation.

After you complete the installation successfully, you can delete all intermediate snapshots to ensure that your host has enough resources available for the other applications to run.

In the table, "Before you begin the installation" means making database backups and VM snapshots after you prepare the target host and after all the prerequisites are met — for example for BMC Network Automation, after the JDK is installed, and the OS user, database, and database users are created  (as required by the product).
