Attaching storage to a VM

After you request a storage service, you specify the VM to which to attach the storage.

Note

You can attach storage to only one VM.

To attach file system or block device storage to a VM

  1. From the list of services in the Service Instances pane of My Cloud Services Console, double-click the server to which you want to attach the storage.

    The server level is displayed:

    server_level.jpg
  2. Highlight the VM, click the operator action icon operator_action_button.jpg, and select Attach. If the Attach action fails to appear in the menu, ensure that the VM to which you want to attach storage is displayed at the server level.
  3. In the Attach Storage dialog box (shown in the following figure), select the storage instance that you want to attach, enter your domain (Active Directory) user name and password, enter the UNIX mount path or Windows drive letter that you want to use, and click Attach:

Note

BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management uses the netuse command to map the CIFS (common internet file system) share as a network drive. This mapping is specific to your user session. Consequently, after the attach storage action, the CIFS mount can be unavailable to a user logging on from another session.

If you do not see the mapped network drive after the attach storage action, you must map the drive manually, as follows:

  1. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Map Network Drive.
  2. In Folder, enter the IP address and storage path shown in the error message.
  3. Click Finish.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
