Attaching storage to a VM fails

After a provisioned VM is restarted, its management IP address may change. However, the cloud database still contains the VMs original management IP address. If a user tries to attach storage to the VM, the request fails because the management IP address is incorrect.

Workaround: You can correct the VM’s management IP address by updating the cloud database entry for the VM.

  1. From the BMC Remedy AR System that hosts the cloud database, search the BMC_ComputerSystem join form using the host name of VM and record the VM’s reconciliation ID.
  2. Open the BMC.CORE:BMC_HostedAccessPoint join form.
  3. Paste the VM’s reconciliation ID from step 1 into the search form.
A number of records based on the number of networks configured in the VM are displayed.
  4. For each of the networks, note the reconciliation ID for BMC_LANENDPOINT join form.
  5. Search the BMC_LANENDPOINT join form for each of the reconciliation IDs from step 4.
  6. For each returned record:
    1. Press the view relationships button and load the related BMC_IPENDPOINT record.
    2. In the specifications tab, inspect the IPAddress field and update it to the correct value if necessary.

      Note

Ensure that the IP address you enter can be accessed from the network on which the attached storage resides.

You can find the IP address using the ipconfig command on Microsoft Windows and ifconfig command on Redhat.
