Creating a Provision Job
You provision servers using a Provision Job, a BMC BladeLogic job that, when executed, applies a system package to a server and begins an unattended installation of the operating system.
You can create a Provision Job in either of two ways:
- Create a job in the Jobs folder. The BMC BladeLogic system creates the job and stores it in the Jobs folder. Use this method to create a Provision Job that you can edit, execute at any time, or schedule for execution.
- Create a job directly from a device. Use this method to create a Provision Job that executes automatically when you finish the creation.
Before you begin
- Create a system package. For information, see Creating-a-system-package.
- Create a folder for Provision Jobs. Right-click the Jobs folder and select New => Job Folder.
To create a Provision Job
- Start the Provision Device wizard. Do either of the following:
- To create a Provision Job from the Jobs folder, open the Jobs folder, right-click a folder, and select New => Provision Job.
- To create a Provision Job from a device (the job executes automatically):
- In the Devices folder, open the Imported folder.
- Right-click a device and select Provision.
The Provision Device wizard opens. The wizard first asks you to choose the system package you want to apply and then allows you to override settings defined in the package.
- Define the Provision Job, as described in the following sections in the BMC BladeLogic Server Automation Users Guide.
- Click Finish after completing the last step of the wizard.
The job is stored in the Jobs folder of the BMC BladeLogic console.
If you created the job directly from a device, the job executes automatically. The job appears in the Tasks in Progress view.
If you created the job from the Jobs folder, the BMC BladeLogic system creates the job and stores it in the Jobs folder. You can execute the job at any time.
