Creating a virtual guest package
Overview
Building and configuring a virtual guest package for BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management is a configuration task that applies to
- bare metal virtual machines (without a source template)
- VMware virtual machine with a source template
You build the virtual guest package to create the virtual machine and then export it to BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management through the Publish Product Catalog job.
Before you begin
- If creating a VMware virtual machine with a source template, prepare your virtualization infrastructure by adding a vCenter server, VM templates, and so forth. See "Servers folders" and "Working with virtual environments" in the BMC BladeLogic Server Automation User Guide.
- Ensure that the virtual guest package for bare-metal virtual machines is assigned a larger disk space amount than what is assigned to the system package. Otherwise, the provisioning fails with the somewhat misleading error message "OS Not Found."
- Store the virtual guest package in the CSM_Virtual_Guest_Packages subfolder of the Depot folder. Otherwise, the Publish Product Catalog job does not publish the virtual guest package to BMC Cloud Lifecycle Managment.

Virtual guest package type
Bare-metal virtual machine
VMware Virtual Machine
Virtual machine with template
VMware Virtual Machine/Template Clone

- Complete the wizard.
Enter the desired configuration settings for your virtual guest package. For example, the bare metal virtual machine configuration shows the virtual machine name but no template:

The virtual machine with template displays the assigned template:
- Complete the other configuration requirements under the VM Processor/Memory/Disk Settings, VM Network Connections, and Local Properties tabs. If you selected a virtual machine with a template, review and complete the VM Basic Config and VM Complete Settings tabs
