Managing virtual load balancers

 A virtual load balancer pool is a group of server network interfaces across which network traffic is load balanced. The server network interfaces must all be on the same network. A load balancer pool has a virtual IP Address (VIP). Network traffic is addressed to the load balancer VIP and forwarded to a server in the pool based on the load balancing algorithm used for the pool.

Cloud administrators can manage virtual load balancers in the following ways:

  • create or delete virtual load balancer pools
  • add or delete entries in a virtual load balancer pool
  • enable or disable entries in a virtual load balancer pool

Before you begin

The network container must have at least one virtual load balancer.

To manage a virtual load balancer and its pools from a network container

  1. From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
  2. Under Quick Links on the left, click Network Containers under the Network section.
     The network containers are displayed.
  3. Select a network container that has a virtual load balancer that you want to manage.
  4. Click the Manage Virtual Load Balancers icon LBicon.gif.
     The Manage Virtual Load Balancers dialog is displayed. The message, "There are no load balancers associated with this network container." is displayed if no load balancers exist in the selected network container.

  5. Select the virtual load balancer to manage.

To manage a virtual load balancer from a service instance

To manage a virtual load balancer from the Network Resources Overview in the BMC My Cloud Services Console

  1. From the Overview pane of the BMC My Cloud Services Console under Network Resources on the left, click the count number next to Virtual Load Balancers.
     The Manage Virtual Load Balancers dialog is displayed.
