Accessing objects

IBM WebSphere MQ administration relates to queue managers and associated objects. MainView Middleware Administrator (MVMA) provides functions for managing these vital IBM WebSphere MQ assets.

Keep in mind that object administration begins at the Summary View level, and facilitates access of specific object instance properties via an instance's Properties Editor. IBM WebSphere MQ administration remains the same in concept and basic function no matter the specific object managed.

Note

The information in this section applies to managing many different IBM WebSphere MQ objects within MVMA. Queue administration is used as a template or object environment for describing generic administrative functions.

How to access a WMQ object

  1. Select one of the WMQ connections from the Navigation Panel.
  2. From the Navigation Panel, select the required object (for example All Queues). The All Queues summary view is displayed.
  3. View the full set of descriptive categories for each queue within the All Queues summary view.

    Note

If you are not sure about the meaning of any column category or Properties Editor definition in the User Console, please refer to IBM WebSphere MQ documentation. This view is, at first glance, informational in nature. However, editing facilities are present using the Operations adjacent to most objects in the Summary Views. The All Queues operations are described in the section that follows.
  4. To drill down into the Properties for the queue, click on the queue’s name.

    Note

When accessing an object type, the filter entered for each object type will be retained for the duration of your session. For example, if you enter SYSTEM* as a filter for All Queue Manager Connections > Local Queues, that value will be populated in the filter field each time you access that summary view. Once you log out, the filter is no longer retained.
