Leveraging external data

Administrators can leverage external data that is residing outside BMC Helix Innovation Suite. You can map a record editor directly to the external data. This results in the external data appearing in BMC Helix Innovation Suite as local record instances. When you leverage external data, tables in the external data source appear as record definitions in your application. Objects, such as View Components, Processes, Rules, Associations, and Named Lists can be bound to the external data source just like regular record definitions.

Only the AR System serverdata source type is supported as an external data source. Data tables are not supported as external data sources. The forms in the AR System serverare shown as tables and the fields in the forms are shown as table columns. These table columns are mapped to the external record definition fields.

If you are using an AR System serverdata source, BMC Helix Innovation Suite does not support FTSfor external records.

Process of leveraging external data

To leverage external data, perform the following steps:

1.Leverage external data by specifying the connection and authentication details for the data source.Configuring a data source
2.Create an external record definition.Creating external record definitions
3.Map the data source alias to an appropriate data source configuration.Mapping the Data Source alias to an appropriate data source configuration
