Enabling approvals

You can enable people to approve the specified types of requests in the application. For example, you can enable change request approvals to manage approvals that contain changes to the entire lifecycle starting from the initial stage.

If you do not enable approvals in the BMC Helix Digital Workplace Admin console, the approvals can still be configured through Approval Central in Action Request System and a workflow in BMC Helix Digital Workplace Catalog; see Workflow to request approval.

Some approvals can also be done through BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT; see Reviewing and approving change requests Open link .

To configure BMC Service Request Management approvals


Starting with the 21.3.02 patch, BMC announces changes related to the availability of BMC Service Request Management that might affect your use of BMC Helix Digital Workplace.

You can configure BMC Service Request Management approvals of the following types:

  • Person — Sends an approval request to any user defined in the People form regardless of the requester's manager.
  • Manager — Sends an approval request to a manager based on the specified management level.
  • Group — Sends an approval request to group members defined as a support group with the approval permission.
  • Custom — Sends an approval request as defined in a custom approval chain.

To enable approval types

  1. In the Admin console, navigate to Configuration > Approvals.
  2. In the Approval types section, select the approval type for which you want to enable requests.

  3. Save your changes.
