Attaching a workflow to a service

As a catalog administrator, internal service supplier, or internal service supplier administrator, you must attach a workflow to a service before the service can be published to end users. The workflow describes what the service does for the user who requests it.

Before you begin

Create a service, or modify an existing service. For more information, see Adding and updating services.

To attach a workflow to a service

You can add a new workflow to a service only after you add it to the Workflows Library

  1. In BMC Helix Digital Workplace Catalog, select Services > Services, and open a service.
  2. On the Service Options pane, click Edit next to Workflow
  3. On the Workflow & Questions pane, click Add next to Workflow.
  4. In the Workflow Library, search for an existing workflow that you would like to attach to a service.

  5. Select a workflow, and then click Save.

You can filter the available workflows by workflow name, or by catalog name. If a workflow belongs to your subcatalog, you can edit the workflow as required. If a workflow does not belong to your subcatalog, you will not be able to edit it. You can only attach it to your service.

To add a new workflow to the Workflow Library

  1. Add new workflows to the Workflows library in one of the following ways:
    • By using the New Workflow action available in the Workflow Library, available from the Service Management page.
    • By using the New Workflow action available from the Workflows page.
  2. Complete the following fields:

The Catalog list is available only to you if you are a service catalog administrator. You can assign a subcatalog for the workflow, so that administrators of the subcatalog will be able to modify it as required. If you do not select a subcatalog, the workflow will a part of the Master subcatalog, and other users will be able to associate this workflow with their services, but will not be able to modify it.
