Follow the installation procedure appropriate for your operating system to use Oracle as the backend database for BMC ProactiveNet.

Notes

Before you begin

  • Ensure that there are no BMC ProactiveNet Integration Services installed on the computer where the BMC ProactiveNet Server will be installed. If any BMC ProactiveNet Integration Services are installed on this computer, the BMC ProactiveNet Server installation fails.
  • Ensure that the computer on which you are installing the product adheres to the hardware, operating system, platform, and software requirements listed in System requirements and product compatibility.
  • Ensure that the computer on which you are installing the product adheres to the requirements described in Preparing for your installation.
  • If you are using the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to install the product, then the RDC must be in console mode.
  • Ensure that .NET Framework version 3.0 is installed. If you are using Windows 2008, use the Role Management tool. For more information about how to install the .NET Framework, see the Microsoft website.

To install BMC ProactiveNet Server with Oracle as database

  1. Access the installation program by using one of these methods:

    • DVD — Insert the installation DVD. In the ServerWin_pw_vX_bdirectory (where X is the version number and Y is the build number), open the BPPMServer directory.
    • BMC Software EPD website (http://webapps.bmc.com/epd) — For more information about downloading the BMC ProactiveNet software, see Downloading the installation files.
  2. Extract the contents of the zipped distribution file to an appropriate directory on the computer where the BMC ProactiveNet Server is upgraded.
  3. Open the install.cmd file with the Run as administrator option.
  4. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  5. On the license agreement page, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.
  6. On the Configuring Firewall Rules page, perform one of the following tasks, and click Next. You must configure firewall rules to allow BMC ProactiveNet processes to communicate through the firewall.

    Note

    • To automatically configure the Windows Firewall rules, select Automatically configure Windows Firewall Rules.

The Windows Firewall inbound rules are configured. An error message appears if you have not started the Windows Firewall.

      Note

Ensure that you start the Windows Firewall before you configure the Windows Firewall rules. For more information about starting the Windows Firewall, see To start Windows Firewall.

    • To manually configure the firewall rules, select I will manually configure Windows Firewall Rules now before proceeding further
      • For more information about creating Windows Firewall inbound rules, see To manually configure Windows Firewall inbound rules.
      • If you prefer to use a third party firewall application, which is installed on your computer, ensure that you manually create the firewall inbound rules. For more information about creating firewall inbound rules, refer to the documentation of the third party firewall application.
  7. (Cluster environment only) On the Cluster Group Configuration page, select the type of the cluster group in which to install the BMC ProactiveNet Server, Default cluster group or Custom cluster group.

    Note

BMC recommends you to install the BMC ProactiveNet Server using a custom cluster group. Ensure that the custom cluster group is already created and the cluster is working in the specified group. The custom cluster group name must be same as the custom cluster name.

  8.  On the Directory Selection page, retain the default directory (\Program Files\BMC Software\ProactiveNet), or click Browse to select a different directory, and click Next.
