Description

Azure provider

The following enhancements were introduced for the Azure provider:

  • BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management supports nested templates. In this case, a "nested" template is a template that the Master template refers to.
  • You can provision to an existing resource group (instead of having BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management create a new resource group for each SOI).For more information, see Product compatibility and limitations for the Azure provider.
  • New blueprint parameters such as resource-containerAZURE_OS_TYPE, and Azure_StorageAccount_Name were added. (For a complete list, see Service blueprint parameters for Azure.)
  • When onboarding a logical data center (LDC) with Azure Resource Manager template-based provisioning, you can select a virtual network or a region. When onboarding an LDC through compute- or instance-based provisions (without Azure Resource Manager templates), you can select only a virtual network. (See Managing Logical Data Centers for the Azure Provider and Provisioning for Azure Resource Manager (with or without templates).)
  • The EnrollServerForNativeManagement and ValidateAgentStatus attributes were added in the providers.json file. For more information, see Access attributes for service providers and cloud services.
  • Support for Azure Resource Manager has been expanded beyond templates. Version 4.6.05 also supports functionality that it supports for the classic Azure Services Manager, such as:
    • Multi-NIC provisioning
    • Single-tier provisioning and decommissioning
    • Adding software to a service offering instance
    • Day 1 and Day 2 actions for CPU and memory
    • Day 2 actions (such as Add Software)
    • Stopping and starting services and servers
    • Transfer ownership, request on behalf of, sharing services

Note

BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 4.6.05 shipped with the latest Microsoft Azure Java SDK available at the time of the release. The version is 1.0.0-beta4-SNAPSHOT, and is still a BETA version.

When Microsoft officially releases the Azure Java SDK, BMC will run a re-certification to verify that no functionality is affected. Then, if necessary, BMC will release a hotfix to address any found issues.

Activity log messages

VMware and AWS troubleshooting messages for the following activities appear in the Activity Timeline Details window:

  • Transaction requestable offering (TRO or Day 2) actions
  • Operator actions used to manage the services and servers

For more information, see Using the Activity Log.

Support for Docker swarm modeYou can register a cluster of Docker engines in swarm mode. For more information, see PaaS provisioning for Docker.
Synchronizing migrated server infrastructureTo make sure that your upgraded server infrastructure and BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management SOIs are synchronized and are always running with updated resources, you can run migrate SDK commands for service instances whose infrastructure servers are migrated across virtual clusters (VCs), VC appliances, clusters, PODs, network centers (NCs), switches, and so on. For more information, see Synchronizing migrated server infrastructure.
API and SDK

The following updates were made to the API and SDK:

  • An addActivityTimeline API was added to the Activity class. This API adds a new timeline entry with a specified message in a specified activity record. This method is useful for BMC Atrium Orchestrator callouts or customization logic to inject additional provisioning updates or similar actions to end users.
  • New migrate commands were added to the SDK to aid in synchronizing migrated server infrastructure. See cluster, host, resource-pool, and service.

Configuring after installing the feature pack

Perform the following post configuration procedures after installing the latest feature pack:

To clear the cache on the primary mid-tier

Use this procedure to clear the cache on the primary mid-tier host.

  1. Log on to the Mid Tier Configuration Tool for the primary mid-tier installed in your cloud environment. This mid-tier is different than the mid-tier running on the enterprise AR System server.
  2. Perform a flush cache.
The flush cache removes all items from the cache that the primary BMC Remedy Mid Tier maintains. The next time the mid tier needs those objects, the most up-to-date versions are retrieved from the AR System server.
  3. Clear the browser cache.

To clear the cache on the secondary mid-tier hosts

Use this procedure to clear the cache on secondary mid-tier hosts. You do not need to perform these steps for the mid-tier running on the Enterprise AR System server.

  1. Log on to the Mid Tier Configuration Tool for the secondary mid-tiers used by the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management console that are different than the mid-tier running on the enterprise AR System server.
  2. Perform a flush cache.
The flush cache removes all items from the caches that the secondary BMC Remedy Mid Tier maintains. The next time the mid tier needs those objects, the most up-to-date versions are retrieved from the AR System server.
  3. Clear the browser cache.
  4. Perform the following steps to hard delete the secondary mid-tier cache:
    1. Stop the mid-tier service.

    2. Log in to the mid-tier server, and delete the contents of the following folders:

      1. ARSystem\midtier\attstore

      2. ARSystem\midtier\cache

      3. ARSystem\midtier\cachetemp

      4. ARSystem\midtier\dvmodule

      5. ARSystem\midtier\PluginsCache

      6. ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\atriumDeploymentPackages

      7. ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\AtriumWidget

      8. ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\AtriumWidget-7604

    3. Delete the atrium-* files in the ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\lib folder.
    4. Delete the contents of the work and temp folders in the ....\...\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat X.X folder.
    5. Delete the viewStats.dat and viewStats.dat.bak files from the ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\Classes folder.
    6. Start the Tomcat (JSP Engine) service.
