Staging policies allow you to automate the assignment of agents to Integration Service nodes as the agents are first brought online. The following are best practices for staging policies:

  • Use staging policies to assign agents to data collection Integration Service nodes. Avoid using the agent Configuration settings in monitoring policies to control Integration Service node configuration for agents so that you avoid confusion.
  • A staging policy must always assign the PATROL Agent to a data collection Integration Service, meaning an Integration Service that processes performance data and events.
  • Use tags or IP address information in the  agent selection criteria to control agent connection to the correct staging Integration Service when you have multiple staging Integration Service nodes and multiple BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Servers requiring more granularity of assignment control.
  • Leverage the ability to control the agents that the staging policies are assigned to based on BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server instances and tags.

Notes

  • Agents do not "activate" any non-staging or monitoring polices when they connect to a staging Integration Service node and the staging policy is applied. Agents have to connect to an Integration Service node that is collecting data and receive a monitoring policy before data flows from the agents to the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.
  • Agents do not forward data or events to the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server when connected to a staging Integration Service.
