The Event Count dashlet displays the count of events for the selected applications, groups, or devices based on the specified status, severity, and advanced filtering options. The dashlet displays the count of events in a stacked, or Column chart, or in a segmented, or Bar chart. The charts plot event count against severity while the stacks or segments indicate the status of those events.


Click the data points to open the Events page where individual events are listed. The events are filtered based on criteria you selected from the Configuration page. For more information see viewing event details and understanding event states.

Dashlet requirements

At least one instance of a TrueSight Infrastructure Manager server must be registered with the Presentation Server for this dashlet template to be available.

Configuring the dashlet

You can configure this dashlet when you add or edit a dashboard.

  1. Click Add Dashlet and select the Event Count dashlet.
  2. Click the Configure Dashlet  icon.

  3. Enter a meaningful and descriptive Title for the dashlet.
  4. From the Refresh Rate list, select a frequency for refreshing the chart view.

    The default is 5 minutes.

  5. In the Event Filter section, select an option to filter the event count:

    • Applications (All or Selected) 

    • Groups (All or Selected)

    • Devices (All or Selected)

      For the Selected option, click the link to search for and add the applications, groups, or devices. A  link is displayed after you selected the applications, groups, or devices. Click the link to change the selected applications, groups, or devices.

      Differentiating between the All and Select All options

      In the Event Filter section there is a difference in behavior between choosing the All Groups or All Devices and choosing the Select All option from the Groups and Devices search dialog boxes.

      • Choose All to select all the groups or devices that are currently in TrueSight. This list changes automatically as groups or devices are added or removed.
      • Choose Select All to select only the items that are returned from a search. The list of groups or devices does not change.

      If the dashboard user selects an application from the Applications list at the dashboard level, then that selection is honored and takes precedence over the choices selected in this step.

  6. From the Status list, select one or more event status to display: 

    • Open

    • Acknowledged

    • Assigned

    • Blackout

    • Closed

      By default OpenAcknowledged, and Assigned are selected.

  7. From the Severity list, select one or more event severity to display: 

    • Critical

    • Major

    • Minor

    • Warning

    • Information

    • OK

    • Unknown

      By default, CriticalMajor, and Minor are selected.


       If no Status or Severity is selected, all types are displayed.
  8. (Optional) Select Add Advanced Filter and select the slots.

    You can add or delete the slots using the and  icons. For information about advanced filtering options, see  Advanced filtering.

  9. Select a Chart Type to display: Column or Bar.
    The default is Column chart type.
  10. Select the Height of the dashlet row: 1X2X, or 3X
    The value of X is approximately 100 pixels. The default height is 2X.
  11. Click Apply to add the configured dashlet to the dashboard.

    Best practice

    After you save the dashlet, if the x- and y-axis chart labels do not appear or appear incorrectly, change the dashboard row size settings to 40% + 40% + 20% layout or larger.


Understanding the dashlet data

In the Event Count dashlet, the column chart data is stacked and the bar chart data is segmented. This section contains more information about understanding the dashlet data.

Chart colors and statuses

All the events that are in the Open status for all severity types are marked in color and appear in the bottom stack of a column chart or left segment of a bar chart. All other statuses (not Open) appear in shades of the color gray. If you hover over a data point, a tooltip displays the status. The following table shows the colors and their meanings:

Charts with single and multiple statuses

If a chart displays only gray segments, no events are in Open status. The total number of events for each severity is displayed at the top of the columns and to the extreme right of the bars. A total count of 0 indicates that there are no events under that severity. Total counts are not displayed for dashlets configured for only one status type or if only status type is available. See the following figure for an example:


You can restrict the number of columns or bars by configuring the dashlet to display fewer severity and status types.
