    BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2018-December-1 is a deliverable for BMC Discovery 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3 series.

    Note

    The Extended Data Pack TKU February 2018 release now features a helpful message on the SupportDetail node should we be unable to provide End-of-Life data for a particular SoftwareInstance, Host (OS), VirtualMachine, NetworkDevice or StorageDevice node kind.

    Note

    The Extended Data Pack TKU September 2017 release for Discovery 11.2 only now additionally includes lifecycle patterns for the VirtualMachine, NetworkDevice, StorageDevice, Host and HostContainer (Blade Enclosure) node kinds. It also now includes hardware reference data for the HostContainer (Blade Enclosure) node kind. The hardware reference data is now embedded directly in the pattern and no longer shipped as an importable csv file. This is available only for users who have a license for the Extended Data Pack.

    Note

    The Extended Data Pack TKU July 2016 release comes with a new feature! BMC Discovery now automatically links to National Vulnerability Database. This is available only for users who have a license for the Extended Data Pack. Please see here the details of the new feature.

    Contents

    • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of certain operating systems, software products, network devices, storage devices, hosts and host containers (blade encloures)
    • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns that populate Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts and host containers (blade enclosures).

    Installation and Upgrade

    Customers can access this Extended Data Pack from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution Website. If you're a customer or partner and do not already have a login please contact your BMC account manager.

    Reasons

    Within Discovery, you may find a failure reason attribute attached to a Support Detail node which describes the current state of the Support Detail node with regard to its missing End Of Life data:

    Failure ReasonExplanation

    No search has yet been made

    		The BMC Discovery TKU team has yet to carry out an extensive search to ascertain whether End Of Life data for the product can be found.
    Product version is too oldThe vendor is no longer publishing End Of Life data for such a version as it is too old.
    Product version is being ignored by vendorThe vendor publishes End Of Life data for other versions of this product but this version has been omitted.
    Product version is too recentThe vendor has yet to publish End Of Life data for such a version as it is too new.
    Published dates are incorrectThe vendor has published End Of Life dates for this version of the product but they are in conflict and would cause confusion if added to Discovery. Such confusing dates might be the End of Support date expiring before the End of Retirement date.
    No published information is available for this productAn extensive search has been conducted and the BMC Discovery TKU team has been unable to locate any End Of Life data for this product.

    You can use BMC Discovery OS / Software product lifecycle data to identify operating systems and software that:

    • are exposed to security / stability risks as they are no longer supported by patch updates
    • you may be paying a premium maintenance subscription for
    • are no longer shipping so may increase costs and risks associated with variance

    • 28 manufacturers

    Host Container (Blade Enclosure)

    You can use BMC Discovery hardware reference data to:

    National Vulnerability Database

    The Extended Data Pack contains functionality to show National Vulnerability Database CPE identities for discovered hosts and software instances.  We have made updates in this release
