Precreating the database

If you have database access restrictions and cannot allow the BMC Digital Workplace and Remedy with Smart IT (Smart IT) installer to create a database, you can create a pre-existing database.

When you precreate a database, you create database users and assign required roles to them.

The following topics are provided:

Before you begin

This topic is part of Preparing-for-installation-of-BMC-Digital-Workplace-and-Smart-IT. Complete the previous steps, described in the following topics:

Required database schemas

BMC Digital Workplace and Smart IT require the following database schemas:

Schema

Purpose

Contains

schemaName_business

Stores business data

  • Location
  • Certificates
  • Configuration
  • Customizations
  • Images

schemaName_system

Stores system data

  • Provider Info (from SmartIT and BMC Digital Workplace)
  • Tenant
  • Plugin

openfire

(Required only if you are using chat in Smart IT) Stores chat data

The database tables above start out small and grow to a size but the size is much small when compared to ITSM DB or MongoDB.

You can replace schemaName with SmartIT or any other identifier that you prefer. BMC recommends that you keep "_business" and "_system" as part of these schema names so that you can easily identify the data in the tables. During installation, you can specify these schemas.

Databases you can precreate

Depending on the database you are using, follow the instructions in the corresponding topic:
