Reports server requirements
The server on which you install BMC Decision Support for Server Automation is called the reports server. This topic lists requirements for the reports server and the third-party software used by the reports server.
Software requirements
The reports server must meet the following requirements:
- The database type used by BMC Decision Support for Server Automation and BMC Server Automation must be same.
- A supported operating system (see Platform support)
Ensure that your server has the required libraries for your operating system (see Linux system requirements). - A Remote System Call Daemon (RSCD) agent (installed and licensed)
BMC Server Automation Network Shell version 8.9 or later
The database type and version used by the reports data warehouse must be the same as used by the BMC Server Automation database. For details, see Database support.
An Oracle 32-bit client software (only for deployments with the Oracle database)
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable should be set to the Oracle client installation path.Note
Cognos requires an Oracle 32-bit client on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. Installing the 64-bit Oracle client and copying 32-bit libraries into the lib32 directory will not work as supported in previous releases.
If you have installed a 64-bit client, an error message appears while installing BMC Decision Support for Server Automation. In that case, install the 32-bit client.
The following table shows the supported operating system and Oracle installation combinations. This table also includes the database client software requirements for the reports server.

Oracle
Windows, UNIX
When installing the client, select the Administrator installation type. The insta-client installation type is not sufficient.
SQL*Loader (sqlldr)
- (Applicable for Oracle only) DBA privileges (sys account privileges) are required to create tablespaces and users for the reports data warehouse. Only a sys user can grant dbms_lob permission to a user and this permission is required for a reports data warehouse user.
Microsoft SQL Server client software (only for deployment with the SQL Server database)
Operating system and hardware requirements
The following table lists the recommended and minimum requirements for the server on which you install BMC Decision Support for Server Automation:
Requirements for reports server
Operating systems | Processor/Speed | Memory | Available disk space |
---|---|---|---|
Novell SUSE | 2 Xeon, 2 GHz or better | Recommended: 16 GB Minimum: 8 GB | Recommended: 12 GB Minimum: 6 GB |
Red Hat Linux | 2 Xeon, 2 GHz or better | Recommended: 16 GB Minimum: 8 GB | Recommended: 12 GB Minimum: 6 GB |
Microsoft Windows | 2 Xeon, 2 GHz or better | Recommended: 16 GB Minimum: 8 GB | Recommended: 12 GB Minimum: 6 GB |
If the reports server is a virtual setup instead of an actual hardware server, the minimum memory requirement is 12 GB.
Third-party software
BMC Decision Support for Server Automation uses the following third-party software for its various components:
Product version | Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version (shipped with product) | Apache Tomcat version for BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console | Apache Tomcat version for reports portal (Cognos) | Apache HTTP Server (Web Server) version | OpenSSL version |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
8.9.00 | 8 Update 102 | 8.0.23 | 6.0.44 | 2.4.12 | 1.0.2f |
Note
- The reports server must be a dedicated server and must not have any other Java-based applications residing on it. BMC Decision Support for Server Automation overwrites the JAVA_HOME environment variable during the installation.
- Having another Java-based application installed on the same server that uses a different version of JRE causes a conflict.
- BMC Decision Support for Server Automation must be installed on a separate server than the BMC Server Automation application server.
- BMC Server Automation database, BMC Decision Support for Server Automation database, and the reports server must be on the same network where the network latency is less than 1 ms.
