Creating and managing tenants

In BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, a tenant is a group of users who need access to the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management – My Cloud Services Console to request services from the cloud. A tenant can be any group of users that needs to isolate its data and services from other groups. The use of tenants in the cloud allows a company or service provider to segregate groups in the cloud and to control the visibility and permissions for offerings in the Service Catalog that are available to tenant users.

Earlier, you could only create tenants in the Application Administration Console. In this release, you can now create tenant companies from the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management – Administration Console.

The following figure illustrates the changes to the tenant management functionality.

High-level steps for setting up tenants

  1. Create new or import existing tenants, as described in Creating and importing tenants.
  2. Map tenants to network containers, as described in Mapping tenants to network containers.
  3. Create cloud users, as described in Creating and managing users.

You can create cost centers from the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management – Administration Console. It is not mandatory to create cost centers while adding tenants in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. Cost centers are used to identify which business units to charge costs to.
