Preventing deletion of inactive device and monitor instances

If the BMC ProactiveNet Server begins a cleanup cycle when a PATROL Agent is not running, devices and monitor instances are deleted if they are inactive longer than the cleanup time (2 hours, by default). To prevent unintentional deletions, ensure that the PATROL Agent is running before the server begins a cleanup cycle.

You can use the following procedure to extend the cleanup time on a leaf BMC ProactiveNet Server, for example, when you plan to stop the PATROL Agent for maintenance or troubleshooting.

To extend the cleanup time on a BMC ProactiveNet Server

  1. On a leaf BMC ProactiveNet Server, open pronet.conf, located in installDirectory\pw\custom\conf folder.
  2. Increase the value of the pronet.autodiscovery.cleanuptime parameter.
The default value is 7200 seconds (two hours).
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. On the same server, run the following CLI commands to restart the Java processes:

    pw system start
