Activating application licenses

Licensing requirements vary depending on the version of BMC Remedy AR System you use. Also, depending on the components that you use, you might need several licenses to activate an application. You must activate the licenses before installing the applications. 

Note

You cannot change the license type of a user to Fixed more than three times in one week.

To add BMC applications licenses

Licenses are active as soon as they are added to the server. Besides the following procedure to add licenses using Add or Remove licenses form, you can also import licenses from a file. For information about importing licenses, see   Exporting or importing licenses Open link .

  1. Log on to the AR System server (http://<midTierServer>/arsys/shared/login.jsp?/arsys).
  2. Open the AR System Administration Console by clicking Applications > AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console.
  3. In the AR System Administration Console, click System > General > Add or Remove Licenses.
  4. Click Add New.
  5. In License Type, select BMC Remedy Applications.
    You can also enter a custom license type that is not in the list. 

  6. Enter the number of licenses.

    Tip

    Add only one license key per application. However, you should add enough user licenses for the various BMC applications that you are using. For example, when adding the BMC: Change Management Application enter the number of licenses as 1. For BMC Change Management User Fixed license, enter the number licenses based on your requirement.

    For BMC Remedy AR server, server option, and application licenses:

    • 0 indicates the license is inactive.
    • 1 indicates the license is active. 

    For user licenses:

    • 0 indicates the license is inactive.
    • Any number greater than 0 indicates the maximum number of licenses available for use.

    The following table lists the licenses you must apply to the AR System server before you start installing other BMC products.

  7. In the Expiration Date field, for trial licenses, enter the date after which the license expires. 

    Note

    Only trial licenses expire.

  8. The License Qualifier field is used to further identify license behavior.
    Do not modify this field unless instructed to do so by BMC or a qualified BMC partner.

  9. Click Save.
    To share license usage report with your support and account representatives, click Generate License Usage Report.
