Note

If you are planning to install the Real User Analyzer component, you must have an activation key file from BMC Customer Support. You will need this file to complete the installation of the Real User Analyzer.

To install Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition

On the system where you want to install the software edition, complete the following procedure.

  1. As a user with root privileges, navigate to Disk1 in the directory where you extracted the .tar.gz file and run ./setup.bin.

  2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  3. Read the license agreement, agree to the terms, and click Next
  4. If you do not want to install the Real User Analyzer and Collector on the same system, clear the component that must not be installed, and click Next

The Real User Analyzer and Collector components can be installed on separate systems.
If a Real User Analyzer or Collector is already installed on the system, the installation will detect the installed component. The installed component cannot be overwritten with a new installation. The installation utility returns to the component screen, and you must deselect the component.

  5. If you selected to install the Real User Analyzer, you must enter the path to the activation key file that you received from BMC Customer Support, enter the company's name, and click Next. The company's name must match the name that is in the activation key file. If you do not have an activation key file, contact BMC Customer Support.
If you do not have an activation key file, you can use the Real User Analyzer for a 30-day trial period by leaving the path to the activation key file empty and entering your company's name.

  6. Retain the default path for the installation directory or change it, and click Next.

    Tip

BMC recommends using the default installation directory to avoid issues related to permissions and access.

  7. The default is: /opt/bmc/euem.

  8. If you change the installation directory, ensure that the path for the installation directory does not exceed 125 characters, and the directory is empty.

  9. The installation utility detects the amount of available disk space and physical memory on the system, and displays the maximum amount to make available for the components that you selected to install.

  10. You can accept the default settings, or enter new maximum settings for the component's disk space and physical memory, and click Next.
The Analyzer requires 100–570 GB of disk space, and the Collector requires between 28–100 GB of disk space. Both components require 8–24 GB of physical memory.
(Optional) If you select the Demo mode option, the maximum disk space is set to 10 GB for the Analyzer and Collector, and the physical memory is set to 2.5 GB. These Demo mode settings cannot be changed. This mode is only used for demonstration purposes.
  11. For the host address, enter the address for the host machine where the component is being installed and click Next.
The host address is the Fully Qualified Domain Name, host name, virtual IP, or public IP address for the machine where the component is installed. This host address is used when a component generates a link to itself (e.g., within mailouts).
  12. For SNMP functionality, select the Enable SNMP box. The default SNMP port number can be changed, if necessary.
If you want to enable SNMP functionality after the installation is finished, you can  enable SNMP for the Real User Analyzer or Collector Open link through the component's interface.
