To apply service packs on the Presentation server using the wizard

Note

If you are operating in the high availability mode, before applying service packs, ensure that the primary Presentation Server is active. Run the tssh ha status to check the high-availability deployment status and verify whether the primary server is up and running.

  1. On the secondary Presentation Server, run the following command from the InstalledDirectory\truesightpserver\bin folder.
    (Windows) tssh server stop
    (Linux) ./tssh server stop

    Note

On Linux, run the command as the non-root user that initially installed the Presentation Server.

  2. On the primary Presentation Server, perform the following steps:
    1. Navigate to the Disk1 directory of the extracted folder, use one of the following options to run the installer:

      Command
To run the upgrade with the default ProductRegistry.xml path

      (Windows) install.cmd

      (Linux - as a non-root user)./install.sh

(applicable to Linux platform only) To run the upgrade with a user-specified ProductRegistry.xml path

Running the following command is important only if in a previous version, you moved the ProductRegistry.xml file from the default location (/opt/bmc/) to a custom location. Thus, while applying the fix pack, you need to provide the new path of the ProductRegistry.xml file (as described in the following command syntax).

      ./install.sh -J PRODUCT_CONFIGURATION_FILE_PATH=<ProductRegistryFilePath>

      Notes:

      • In the preceding commands, <ProductRegistryFilePath> refers to the full path to the ProductRegistry.xml file.

        Example: ./install.sh -J PRODUCT_CONFIGURATION_FILE_PATH=/data1/userA/ProductRegistry.xml

      • On Linux, ensure the following:

        • Start a new session as a non-root user to run the upgrade. Do not use the su command to start a non-root session.

        • Perform the upgrade as the user that initially installed the Presentation Server.
        • Ensure that you have set the DISPLAY environment variable.

    2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
    3. On the License Agreement page, read the agreement and select the I agree to the terms of the license agreement option, and click Next
If you do not agree to the terms of the license agreement, the installation process will not continue.
    4. On the Upgrade Confirmation page, select Yes, and click Next.
The installer automatically verifies the upgrade requirements. If it finds any errors, it displays them in the next screen. You can quit the upgrade process at this point, correct the indicated discrepancies, and then rerun the upgrade.

      Important

After you confirm, the Presentation Server is stopped temporarily and is started automatically after applying the service pack.

    5. Verify that the information on the Installation Preview page reflects your upgrade correctly. Click Previous to make changes, or click Install.
The installer configures the Presentation Server and starts the installation process. This might take some time. After the installation, the Installation Summary dialog box displays a summary of the installation.
To view the installation logs, click View Log.
    6. Click Done to exit the installation wizard.

  3. Verify that the primary server is the active node by running the tssh ha status command.

Verify before the secondary server upgrade

Check the pg_hba.conf file for correct Hostname and IpAddress of both the nodes on the primary Server. If it's not replicated correctly, follow the below steps:

    1. Navigate to TrueSight Presentation primary server <TrueSight Presentation Server>\truesightpserver\data\pgsql\pg_hba.conf  and add IP address of primary and secondary TrueSight Presentation Server:

host replication replicator <TrueSight Presentation Server_Primary_IP>/32 trust

host replication replicator <TrueSight Presentation Server_Secondary_IP>/32 trust

    2. On Primary TrueSight Presentation Server, navigate to <TrueSight Presentation Server-HOME>/truesightpserver/modules/pgsql/bin and run the following command:

      pg_ctl reload -D <TrueSight Presentation Server_HOME>/truesightpserver/data/pgsql

  4. On the secondary Presentation Server, perform the following steps:

    1. Navigate to the Disk1 directory of the extracted folder, use one of the following options to run the installer:

      Command
To run the upgrade with the default ProductRegistry.xml path

      (Windows) install.cmd

      (Linux - as a non-root user)./install.sh

      Best practice

Before you access the TrueSight console, BMC recommends that you clear the browser cache.

To verify the Presentation Server upgrade was successful

  1. Access the truesightpserver_servicepack_log.txt (11.3.05) which is located in the (Windows%temp% directory or (Linux/tmp directory. Check for warnings or errors. If there are no errors or warnings, the Presentation Server was successfully upgraded.
  2. Navigate to the (WindowsTrueSightPServer\truesightpserver\bin or (LinuxTrueSightPServer/truesightpserver/bin directory and run the following command:

    (Windows) tssh server status

    (Linux) ./tssh server status

    1. The current installed version is displayed in the header that is similar to the following example:
BMC TrueSight Presentation Server - Command Line Interface 2021 version 11.3.05
    2. A list of Presentation Server processes is displayed that is similar to the following sample:
      Process status
      ================================
      Core Server     Running (13176)
      Index Server    Running (11028)
      Database Server Running (6052)

If errors occur, restart the Presentation Server by running the following command:

(Windows) tssh server start

(Linux) ./tssh server start

If error conditions persist, contact BMC Customer Support for assistance.

Where to go from here
