Applying feature packs or fix packs on IT Data Analytics using the wizard

To apply feature packs or fix packs on IT Data Analytics using the wizard

  1. Log in to the host computer as a user with administrator privileges and extract the downloaded files to a temporary directory.
  2. To start the upgrade do the following:
    • (Windows) In the Windows\Disk1\ directory, right-click setup.exe and select Run as administrator
    • (Linux) From the Linux\Disk1\ directory, run the ./setup.bin command as a non-root user credentials.
  3. On the welcome page, click Next.
  4. Review the license agreement, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.
    The installer checks the environment for installed software components and available space. 
  5. (Optional) Select the option to start TrueSight IT Data Analytics services after the installation completes. 

  6. Preview the details and click Install to start the installation.

  7. (Optional) On the Installation Summary page, click View log to view the installation log details on the screen. From the log view, you can expand and view the log messages. 
  8. Click Done to exit the installation program.
  9. To verify that the feature pack or fix pack has been installed successfully: 

    • (Windows): Navigate to Start > Run > services.msc and verify that all the product services have started.
    • (Linux): Navigate to the $BMC_ITDA_HOME/services/bin directory and run the status command.
  10. Restore the backed up keystore file (bmcitda.jks), and restart the IT Data Analytics server after upgrading.

    Note: The bmcitda.jks keystore file is backed up before upgrading to ensure that the custom certificates are not lost after upgrading.

  11. Apply the IT Data Analytics 11.3.02.000.001 hotfix.

    The TrueSight IT Data Analytics 11.3.02.000.001 hotfix ensures that the TrueSight IT Data Analytics licence key is decoded and read correctly. Without the hotfix, the Console server fails to start.

    Do the following:

    1. Ensure that:
      • You apply the hotfix using the same user account that you used for installing TrueSight IT Data Analytics 11.3.01.
      • You apply the TrueSight IT Data Analytics hotfix for version 11.3.02 on the computer where the BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics Server service is running.
      • You set the BMC_ITDA_HOME environment variable.
    2. Download the file attached here Open link (ftp://ftp.bmc.com/pub/ITDA_patches), and extract the file to a temporary directory. The following file is available:
      • (Windows) ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.000.001.zip
      • (Linux) ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.000.001.tar
    3. Unzip the extracted file:

      • (Windows)
        Unzip the ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.000.001.zip file.
        The contents of the files are extracted into the ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.000.001 directory.

      • (Linux)
        Run the following command:

        tar -xvf ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.000.001.tar

    4. In a custom environment, in the ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.properties file, change localhost to the FQDN of the computer where the BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics ConfigDB service is running. 
    5. Run the following command:

      (Windows)

      ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.bat

      (Linux)

      ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02.sh

      Note: Reverting the hotfix

      If required, you can revert the hotfix. Do the following:

      1. In a custom environment, in the ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02_revert.properties file, change localhost to the FQDN of the computer where the BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics ConfigDB service is running.
      2. Run the following command:

        (Windows)

        ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02_revert.bat

        (Linux)

        ITDA_HotFix_11.3.02_revert.sh

Troubleshooting a failed upgrade
