Worksheet to configure disaster recovery for Infrastructure Management (SAP SQL Anywhere)

The following table lists the steps that you must perform to configure a Infrastructure Management disaster recovery system. Use the table to record the required disaster recovery information and confirm actions. This information will help you perform a seamless configuration of disaster recovery setup.

Configure the DNS server 
Specify an alias name for the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 
Configure the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server 
Edit the hosts file with an entry for the alias name set for the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 

Record the following parameters. You must enter the same ones during installation of recovery server:

  • Installation location
  • SIM cell:
    • Instance name
    • Port
    • Encryption key
  • Admin cell:
    • Port
    • Encryption key
  • Administration information:
    • Sender email address
    • Administrator email address
    • SMTP server name or IP address
  • Central Monitoring Repository destination directory
 
Enable Disaster Recovery Mode. 
(Windows only) For the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server service and the Infrastructure Management Database Engine service, set the Startup type to Manual. 
Configure the remote event cells 
To flush and reset the cache, open a command prompt on a remote event cell and run the following command:
ipconfig /flushdns
 
Restart the remote event cell, and similarly, configure all the remote event cells. 
Configure the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server 
Stop the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 

Use the same entries that you configured for the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server:

  • Installation location
  • SIM cell:
    • Instance name
    • Port
    • Encryption key
  • Admin cell:
    • Port
    • Encryption key
  • Administration information:
    • Sender email address
    • Administrator email address
    • SMTP server name or IP address
  • Central Monitoring Repository destination directory
 
Enable Disaster Recovery Mode. 
On the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server, edit the hosts file with an entry for the <aliasName>that is the same alias name as the one on the primary server. 
(Windows only) For the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server service and the Infrastructure Management Database Engine service, set the Startup type to Manual. 
Restart the computer with the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 
Stop the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 

If the following processes are running on your computer, end them:

  • (Windows) Pproxsrv.exe and Pwtray.exe
  • (Solaris) Pproxsrv
 
Copy the entire \pw directory from the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server to the \pw directory of the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 
Move all the log files from \pw\pronto\logs to a backup directory. 
Start the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and validate the configuration. 
Stop the recovery BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. 
Restart the primary BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.
On the primary server, run the pw system start command.
 
Back up the database files and configuration files at regular intervals 
Back up configuration files. 
Back up KB files files. 
Back up cell database files. 
Back up database files.
