PATROL Agent upgrade considerations

Before upgrading a PATROL Agent, as an administrator, investigate the infrastructure policies configured for a PATROL Agent.

The policies can be applied to a PATROL Agent through one of the following sources:

  • PATROL Configuration Manager (PCM)
  • TrueSight console Infrastructure Management administration
  • wpconfig configuration utility (PATROL Agent on Windows)

Before upgrading a PATROL Agent, you need to analyse and decide if you want to retain or delete an infrastructure policy.

Upgrade considerations if you want to delete or disable an Infrastructure policy

The following section describes the significance of deleting or disabling an Infrastructure Policy that is created from the TrueSight console (Configuration > Infrastructure Policies > Create Policy). When you create a Monitoring policy, you can specify the configuration details through any of the following configuration tabs.

If you disable or delete a monitoring policy where you have set the configuration details through one of the following configuration tabs, the behavior of the configuration variables differ as described in the following section:

  • Monitoring, Filtering, Polling, Agent Threshold configuration tabs: Both custom, and the built-in configuration variables (ConfigData branch) are deleted.
  • Configuration variables tab: The configuration variables are affected differently as described in the following section.

    • Custom configuration variables: All custom configuration variables are deleted.
    • Built-in configuration variables: The configuration variables of the following branches are retained:
        • AgentSetup
        • SNMPSetup
        • EventSetup

The values of the retained configuration variables are set to:

    • Default, if they have a default value defined before applying an Infrastructure policy.
    • Null, if they don't have a default value defined before applying an Infrastructure policy.

Before upgrading a PATROL Agent, run the following command to reset the built-in configuration variables to their default values:

    pconfig +PURGE -p <port> -host <hostname>
