Monitoring solutions

Monitoring solutions are provided in the Infrastructure Management PATROL Repository, which you can import during the installation of TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server or later. For more information, see Importing the Infrastructure Management repository.

Knowledge Modules

Monitoring solutions consist of one or more knowledge modules (KMs). KMs are customized objects that typically manage and monitor elements of your IT environment. A KM is a set of instructions that PATROL Agent uses to monitor objects in your environment. TrueSight Infrastructure Management provides an extensive set of out-of the-box knowledge modules that collect performance data from applications, databases, servers, hypervisors, cloud components, middleware, hardware, and storage.

You can extend the monitoring solutions provided by BMC. You also can write your own custom monitoring solutions. For a list of monitoring solutions provided by BMC that you can configure using the TrueSight console, see the List of Monitoring Solutions and KMs in Infrastructure Management Open link . For specific information about available monitoring solutions and their capabilities, see the getting started guides and user guides for each monitoring solution.

PATROL monitoring solutions

PATROL Monitoring Solutions are customized objects that typically manage and monitor elements of your server environment. PATROL Monitoring Solutions are sets of instructions that PATROL Agents use to monitor objects in your server environment. Infrastructure Management provides an extensive set of out-of-the-box PATROL Monitoring Solutions that collect performance data from applications, databases, servers, hypervisors, cloud components, middleware, hardware, and storage.

PATROL Agents load information from PATROL Monitoring Solutions, gather statistics, and send data and events to Integration Service. Using the data from PATROL Monitoring Solutions, PATROL Agents can:

  • Detect the presence and status of a device (discovery)
  • Collect data on any measurable aspect of a device (parameters and attributes)
  • Interpret data by using defined rules
  • Store collected data in local files (history)
  • Implement predefined actions to correct abnormal conditions (recovery actions)

After the PATROL Monitoring Solutions are imported into Infrastructure Management, they are referred to as monitors.
