10.0.00 enhancements

This topic provides information about the enhancements and features introduced in version 10.0.00 of BMC PATROL Agent.

Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.2) compliance

Platform support for TLS compliant PATROL Agents

TLS 1.2 compliant PATROL Agent is now supported on the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows (64-bit)
  • Oracle Solaris SPARC (64-bit)
  • Oracle Solaris (x86-64)
  • HP-UX (64-bit) on Itanium 2
  • Linux s390x and x64
  • IBM AIX hardware (64-bit)

Improved data security through Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

PATROL Agent uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption standard to store the data, passwords, and security certificates. AES is more secure than its predecessors Data Encryption Standard (DES) and triple DES. PATROL agent supports AES in two key sizes: 256-bit and 128-bit. By default, the PATROL Agent is AES 256-bit compliant. However, you need to select the appropriate encryption key size based on the import regulations in your region or country. For more information, see Setting the AES encryption key size for the PATROL Agent.

Custom events for remote devices

PATROL Agent can now generate custom events for remote devices through event trigger2. This new event trigger type has the ability to generate the custom events for the remote hosts by setting the host name accurately.

Support for virtual secure store and secure key store

PATROL Agent uses the secure store, and an extended configuration database, to store the configuration data securely. The data stored is secured in a key format. PATROL Agent enables you to configure, modify, and store the security settings. The secure key store environment variables enable the support for virtual secure store path. This can be used in a cluster environment to define a shared virtual path among cluster nodes. For more information, see uses Support for virtual secure store and secure key store.

PATROL Knowledge Module deployment

This release of TrueSight Infrastructure Management makes it easier to manage your Knowledge Modules (KMs) from one console. With version 10.0 of the PATROL Agent, you can push new KMs and update existing KMs to your Agents directly from the TrueSight console without having to perform separate installations for each host.

See an overview of the process.

Out-of-the-box deployable packages and monitoring policies help you get started with infrastructure monitoring. For more information, see Getting started with infrastructure monitoring.
