Active Directory Server (AD_AD_SERVER)
This application class represents a domain controller instance. Each discovered domain controller has one instance of this application class. The instance is named Active Directory Server. If the domain controller is a global catalog server, this fact is reflected in the instance name.
Note
The Active Directory Server monitor type in BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management is referred as the AD_AD_SERVER application class in BMC PATROL.
To access the AD_AD_SERVER application class, double-click the Active Directory Server icon.

Did you know?
Monitor types in the TrueSight console and Central Monitoring Administration are known as application classes in the PATROL consoles.
Attributes in Central Monitoring Administration are known as parameters in the PATROL consoles.
Parameter Reference Database (PRD)
The attribute information is also available in downloadable format in the Parameter Reference Database (PRD).
The PRD contains reports of the parameters available from the KMs and solutions in the extensive Knowledge Module (KM) library.
You can access these reports in CSV, PDF, or HTML format.
Attributes (parameters)
The following attributes are available for this monitor type:
Name | Description | Unit | Default Performance Key Indicator (KPI) |
---|---|---|---|
Active Directory Client Name Translation Rate (AdClientNameTransRate) | Reports the number of Active Directory client name translations issued against the Active Directory server since the last collection cycle. | Operations per second | No |
Active Directory Read Rate (AdReadRate) | Reports the number of Active Directory read operations issued against the Active Directory server since the last collection cycle. | Operations per second | No |
Active Directory Search Rate (AdSearchRate) | Reports the number of Active Directory search operations issued against the Active Directory server since the last collection cycle. | Operations per second | No |
Active Directory Server Name Translation Rate (AdServerNameTransRate) | Reports the number of Active Directory server name translations issued against the Active Directory server. | Operations per second | No |
Active Directory Threads (AdThreadsInUse) | Reports the number of threads in use by the Active Directory server. | Number of threads | No |
Active Directory Write Rate (AdWriteRate) | Reports the number of Active Directory write operations issued against the Active Directory server. | Operations per second | No |
AD Database Required Free Space Status (AdDiskSpaceAvailable) | Monitors the amount of required disk space available on the current volume that hosts the Active Directory data repository.
| 0=Required free space met 1=Required free space not met | No |
Average Inter-site Replication Latency (AdIntersiteReplicationLatency) | Reports the average replication latency between domain controllers between the site/domain, site forest, or both, to this domain controller (DC). The annotation for the data points reports the maximum latency and the name of the domain controllers to which the current domain controller is replicating. The value of this parameter is equal to the latency plus or minus the time difference between servers, which could end up in a negative value if the server time difference exceeds latency. | Seconds | No |
Average Intra-site Replication Latency (AdIntrasiteReplicationLatency) | Reports the average replication latency between domain controllers within the site/domain, site/forest, or both, and the current domain controller (DC). The annotation for data points reports the maximum latency and the name of the domain controllers to which the current domain controller is replicating. The value of this parameter is equal to the latency plus or minus the time difference between servers, which could end up in a negative value if the server time difference exceeds latency. | Seconds | No |
Disk Space Used By Active Directory (AdDiskSpaceUsed) | Reports the amount of disk space used by the Active Directory data repository. | MB | No |
Domain Controller Advertisement Status (AdDcAdvertised) | Verifies that a domain controller is correctly advertising itself correctly as a domain controller. If a domain controller is not advertising correctly, clients cannot locate it. |
| No |
Domain Controller Serving Correct Site (AdServingCorrectSite) | Determines if the domain controller local site name matches the client site name. |
| No |
Domain Controller Site-Changed Status (AdServerSiteChanged) | Monitors the site where the domain controller resides and alerts if the site changes. The data points are annotated with the current site name and the previous site name. |
| No |
Global Catalog Advertisement Status (AdGcAdvertised) | Verifies that a global catalog is correctly advertising itself as a global catalog. If a global catalog is not advertising correctly, clients will not be able to locate it. |
| No |
Inter-site Replication Synchronization Status (AdIntersiteReplicationStatus) | Reports whether replication between the site/domain, site/forest, or both for a domain controller is occurring properly. Creates a PATROL Event Manager event, which contains annotated data, if the KM finds slow or failed replication data. This parameter is inactive by default. Each discovery cycle, the KM checks to see if the current domain controller (DC) is a bridgehead server. If the current server becomes a bridgehead server, then the parameter becomes active. Because the active/inactive status is determined programmatically, changing the active/inactive setting for the parameter has no effect on the active/inactive status at run time. |
| Yes |
Intra-site Replication Synchronization Status (AdIntrasiteReplicationStatus) | Reports whether replication within the site/domain, site/forest, or both for a domain controller is occurring properly. Creates a PATROL Event Manager event, which contains annotated data, if the KM finds slow or failed replication data. This parameter is inactive by default. Each discovery cycle, the KM checks to see if more than one domain controller (DC) is in the current site. If there is more than one DC in the site, then the parameter becomes active. Because the active/inactive status is determined programmatically, changing the active/inactive setting for the parameter has no effect on the active/inactive status at runtime. |
| Yes |
Sysvol Share Status (AdSysvolShared) | Reports whether or not Sysvol is shared. Sysvol must be shared for group policy to be replicated and applied to domain controllers and other objects. |
| No |
Time Difference From PDC (AdServerTimeDifference) | Monitors the time difference between the domain controller and the domain controller that holds the FSMO role primary domain controller emulator (referred to as the PDC).
Alarm data points are annotated with the following information:
The FRS Event ID 13548 is logged when the time settings for two replication partners differ by more than 30 minutes. Recommendations | Seconds | No |
SYSVOL Inbound and Outbound Connections Exist (AdSysvolInOutConnection) | Verifies that the domain controller has an enabled inbound connection from a SYSVOL replication partner and that an enabled outbound connection from the domain controller resides on a SYSVOL replication partner. |
| No |
