Managing high CPU utilization and Memory consumption with the mcell process
The mcell process manages cells that service operators and service managers use to monitor the real-time events and services associated with information technology resources.
The following attributes allow you to monitor information about the number of events in the server cell so you can see the resuource utilization taking place in the mcell process.
Relevant attributes
The following attributes help you determine the resource utilization of the of the mcell process, which is an important component of the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and is used to manage server cells.
Attribute | Description | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Average number of propagated events (PropagatedEventRate) | This attribute reports the average number of propagated events per minute in the server cell of the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server, which is monitored in the TrueSight Presentation Server. It helps you identify if there is a sudden, or consistent, change in the events propagated per minute in the server cell. This attribute uses the following metric values:
| ||||||
Average number of received event messages (ReceivedEventRate) | This attribute reports the average number of received events per minute in the server cell of the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. It helps you identify if there is a sudden, or consistent, change in the events received per minute in the server cell. This attribute uses the following metric values:
| ||||||
Total number of events in the server cell (EventCount) | This attribute reports the total number of events in the server cell of the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. It helps you identify if there is a sudden, or consistent, change in the number of events in the server cell. This attribute uses the following metric values:

Suggested actions for triggered events
If the thresholds that you set for these attributes are breached, an alert is generated that triggers an event. When an event occurs, check the following issue
- Make sure that the native monitoring is disabled.
- Make sure that your deployed environment is large enough to meet the data collection and event management requirements for the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. For example:
- The latest monitoring policies might require changes to the environment size due to increased monitoring data and the resulting increase in the number of events.
The latest thresholds that were set might require changes to the environment size as a resulting increase in the number events.
For more information about sizing your environment, see the sizing charts in the TrueSight Infrastructure Management help topics that corresponds to the version you are using.
- Determine if there is enough disk space available on the system where the Presentation Server is installed.
- Confirm that there is enough CPU and memory available for the Presentation Server to operate efficiently.
