Configuring a TrueSight Self-Monitoring policy in TrueSight

Before you can begin using the PATROL for TrueSight Self-Monitoring KM, you must configure a monitoring policy.

You can use the information in this topic to configure a TrueSight Self-Monitoring policy with the TrueSight console.

Before you begin

You must use administrator level credentials to use all of the PATROL for TrueSight Self-Monitoring KM parameters. Otherwise, some KM features will not be available for monitoring.

To configure the monitor type

In the Add Monitoring Configuration panel, select the following parameters for the PATROL for TrueSight Self-Monitoring KM:

You also need to enter Java home details and the operating system credentials as follows:

Java Collector Details
Java Path
  • Enter the full path (do not use the short path format) to the JRE directory on the PATROL Agent host. The Java version must be 8 or later.
    For example:
    • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre8
    • Unix\LINUX: /usr/java8_64
  • Alternatively, you can also use the $JAVA_HOME environment variable in this field. If you use the $JAVA_HOME variable, the Java location depends on the $JAVA_HOME you declare in you PATROL agent host.
  • If this field is left blank, the KM looks for the Java executable in the Patrol3\openjdk and Patrol3\jre64 locations.

(Optional) Local admin OS Credentials

Note: The user must have the credentials to run the Java process and read/write privileges to the PATROL directory. The default PATROL user credentials are used if no credentials are entered.

User name
Enter the local administration OS account user name.
PasswordEnter the local administration OS account password.
Confirm password
Re-enter the local administration OS account password.

Click Add to open the Environment Configurations pane and enter the following information:

In the Environment Configurations pane, enter the following information:

Environment name

Enter a unique environment name for monitoring the TrueSight environment. A container will be created with the environment name. This environment will hold all the TrueSight instances.

Note: The name cannot include blank spaces or any of the following special characters: # $ \ ' | ~ ! @ % ^ ; ` ( ) { } ? \ " [ ] + = & : > < * /

TrueSight Self-monitoring connection details
Host/IP

Enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or the IP address of the standalone Presentation Server or Load Balancer server. The IP addresses can be in the IPv4 or IPv6 format.

Note: An example of an IPv6 address is [2001:db8:28:3:f98a:5b31:67b7:67ef].

ProtocolSelect the HTTPS or HTTP protocol used to communicate with the Presentation Server or Load Balancer server.
Port

Enter the port number used to communicate with the Presentation Server or Load Balancer server.

The default port number is 443.

User NameEnter the user name for the Presentation Server or Load Balancer server.
PasswordEnter the password for the Presentation Server or Load Balancer server.
Confirm PasswordRe-enter the user name for the Presentation Server or Load Balancer server.
Tenant Name

Enter a tenant name from the Presentation Server.

If this field is left blank, the followings default tenants are used:

  • TrueSight Presentation Server versions 10.x: BmcRealm
  • TrueSight Presentation Server versions 11.x: * 

Note: For information about creating tenants in Remedy SSO and the steps to enable multi-tenancy on the Presentation Server, see Configuring tenants for the Presentation Server in Remedy SSO.

SSL Certificate Path

The full path of the certificate that is used to communicate with the TrueSight Presentation Server or Load Balancer server via HTTPS protocol. The file must be located in the same host where the PATROL Agent is running. For example, /tmp/security/truesight.cer.

(Optional) High Availability Details
Primary Host/IP Enter the FQDN or the IP address standalone address of the primary Presentation Server. The IP addresses can be in the IPv4 or IPv6 format.
Primary Port

Enter the port number used to communicate with the primary Presentation Server.

If this field is left blank, the KM uses the port number entered in TrueSight self-monitoring connection details.

Standby Host/IP Enter the FQDN or the IP address standalone of the secondary Presentation Server. The IP addresses can be in the IPv4 or IPv6 format.
Secondary Port

Enter the port number used to communicate with the secondary Presentation Server. If you do not enter a value in this field, the port entered for the primary Presentation Server is used.

Protocol

Enter the protocol used to communicate with the primary or secondary Presentation Server.

Select DEFAULT to use the protocol entered in TrueSight self-monitoring connection details.

SSL Certificate PathThe full path of the certificate that is used to communicate with the Primary Presentation Server or Secondary Presentation Server via HTTPS protocol. The file must be located in the same host where the PATROL agent is running. For example, /tmp/security/truesight.cer.

(Optional) KM Administration

TrueSight collector (minutes) The time period between TrueSight data polling intervals.
TrueSight cell collector (minutes) The time period between TrueSight cell polling intervals.
Timeout (minutes) The maximum time period to connect to a Presentation Server, cell, or invoke any web service or cell query.
Optional JVM args

Enter the JVM arguments to use when starting the Java collector. For example: -Xms96m -Xmx256m -Dsome.property='some value'

Logging  

Select this checkbox to enable PSL and JAVA debug.

The log files are created under PATROL_HOME directory:

  • Java: ~/ksm/logs/java
  • PSL: ~/log/ksm-*.kmlog
Create Device

By default, device mapping on the TrueSight user console is enabled (check box selected), and the PATROL instance appears as a device in the following TrueSight components:

  • Presentation Server
  • Infrastructure Management
  • Integration Service

Enabling device mapping consolidates TrueSight monitoring at device level.

Clear this checkbox to disable device creation in the Presentation Server.

After you have completed configuring the environment, click OK to add this to the environment configurations list. This environment is displayed on the Environment Configuration list.

Click Cancel to exit without saving any changes.
