Deploying BMC Helix Service Management in the CORE mode

The features and enhancements in this topic are under controlled availability to select customers. We recommend that you contact BMC Helix Support to review and adjust the sizing according to your specific environment.

Install BMC Helix Service Management in the CORE mode to use only the platform components. Use this mode to optimize resource utilization of your environment when you do not use any Service Management applications, such as BMC Helix ITSM, BMC Helix Digital Workplace, and BMC Helix Business Workflows, and require only the platform for your business needs.

Overview

Use CORE mode to activate only the BMC Helix Service Management platform components and BMC HelixGPT. In this mode, the system installs the complete solution, including all platform and application components. However, only the  following platform components are activated, while the application pods are scaled down to zero replicas:

  • BMC Helix Innovation Suite, which includes AR System and Mid Tier
  • BMC Helix CMDB
  • Foundation data objects
  • (Optional) BMC HelixGPT and Clam AntiVirus

You can activate additional applications later without needing a separate installation.

For information about the sizing requirement and the pods installed in the CORE mode, see Sizing and scalability considerations for CORE mode and Performing the BMC Helix Service Management installation.

Benefits

The BMC Helix Service Management CORE mode deployment provides the following benefits:

  • Optimized resource utilization—Minimizes BMC Helix Service Management footprint by loading only the required platform components into memory.

  • Flexible deployment—Enables you to start with a minimal setup and scale up as needed.

  • Tailored for specialized use cases—Provides resource-efficient deployment for AR System custom applications, CMDB only, and BMC HelixGPT.

  • Cost efficiency—Reduces the operational cost with lower infrastructure requirements.

Scenarios

The following scenarios describe the use cases when you can use the  BMC Helix Service Management CORE mode deployment:

Scenario 1: Deploy only BMC Helix Innovation Suite
Apex Global has developed its own internal ticketing system by using the BMC Helix Innovation Suite platform and does not require BMC Helix ITSM and smart applications. To optimize resource usage and streamline operations, a system administrator in Apex Global installs BMC Helix Service Management in CORE mode.
This configuration ensures that only required components are loaded into memory, while non-essential components are excluded. The deployment is lightweight and reduces CPU and memory consumption.

Scenario 2: Deploy BMC Helix Innovation Suite and BMC HelixGPT

Apex Global wants to install BMC Helix Service Management to use BMC HelixGPT Agent Studio to enhance their IT operations with generative AI capabilities.

To optimize infrastructure usage and streamline operations, a system administrator in Apex Global chooses to deploy BMC Helix Service Management in the CORE mode and BMC HelixGPT. This approach ensures that only platform and BMC HelixGPT components are installed and loaded into memory, minimizing CPU and memory consumption.
