Roles and permissions

BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench supports the following roles, which can be assigned to individual user accounts.

Role

Permission

cmt_user

  • Basic permission level, which allows the user to log in and browse data.

A user with the cmt_user role may not make changes to data, perform data migrations or create migration packs.

cmt_migration_pack_creator

  • Can create or edit migration packs and data mappings

cmt_migration_user

  • Can run discovery jobs
  • Can run migration with predefined migration packs
  • Can run deletion jobs

The user is restricted to the systems to which they have been granted access.

cmt_data_extract

  • Can extract application data (such as Form Counts and Data Analysis) into the BMC Helix Data Manager Repository for analysis

cmt_system_registrar

  • Can assign users to BMC Helix ITSM systems
  • Cannot configure BMC Helix ITSM Systems

cmt_user_admin

  • Can administer BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench user accounts and roles and access to systems

cmt_super_user

By default, a super user account is created when BMC Helix Data Manager is installed with the user name hdm and the same password. Make sure to change this password after installation.

  • Can perform all application functions
  • Has full permission across the Workbench without any restrictions

In addition to this functional role-level access, BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench enforces BMC Helix ITSM level permissions. Users can perform actions against BMC Helix ITSM systems to which they have been given explicit access.

This does not prevent a user with access to target system A from running an import job where the data came from source B (to which they do not have access), nor does this prevent a user with access to B exporting data that is destined for A (to which they do not have access).
