Approaches for migrating data from on-premises to SaaS environment

Migrating the data from an on-premises environment to a SaaS environment involves upgrading to the latest BMC Helix ITSM version. The approaches are listed as follows: 

  • Seamlessly migrating data from on-premises to SaaS environment by using BMC Helix Data Manager
  • Loading foundation data only (deprecated)

Seamlessly migrating data from on-premises to SaaS environment by using BMC Helix Data Manager

This document assumes the following approach for your migration:

BMC Helix Data Manager is used to migrate all (or a subset) of your data from an on-premises environment that includes all the foundation and ticket data. This approach involves no operational impact, no need to manage parallel systems, and seamless migration.

BMC Helix Data Manager is installed on the customer's environment and on the BMC Service Management cloud. BMC Helix Data Manager exports the data to files on the customer's on-premises installation. These files are transferred to the cloud by using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) and then imported into BMC Helix Innovation Suite on the cloud by using BMC Helix Data Manager on the cloud.
