Example procedure for migrating Remedy with Smart IT


The following procedure describes how to migrate Remedy with Smart IT.

  1. Register the Remedy Smart IT source.
    1. Log in to BMC Helix Data Manager.
    2. Select Configuration > Register & Configure Systems.
    3. Click on + button.
    4. From the Type list, select Relational Database.
    5. Complete the fields on the Database and Schemas tabs.
      On the Schemas tab, enter the logical name as Business or System only.
  2. After saving the source system, create hdm user by selecting Action > Create HDM Database Integration.
  3. From the Actions menu, select the following actions on the source system:
    • Test System Connectivity
    • Get Database Character Set
    • Discover Data Dictionary
  4. Register the target 21.05 system.
    From the Type list, select Relational Database, and make sure that logical name is Default on the Schemas tab. Repeat all the steps above (except for discovering the data dictionary).
  5. Disable foreign keys in the target system:
    1. Select Action > Enable/Disable Triggers.
    2. In the dialog box, select Disable Trigger.
    3. Enter the database administrator credentials.
    4. Click Execute.
  6. Configure file system connections for the Remedy with Smart IT source and target systems.
  7. Download the Remedy with Smart IT migration packs from the FTP and place them in InstallationFolder\Metadata
  8. Select Configuration > Import HDM Meta Data.
  9. Scan the Metadata folder and import the packs into the client.
  10. Copy the Template SmartIT pack to the Smart IT source and target systems.
  11. Run the migration with the Default template.
    For a multitenant environment:
    1. Change the filters in the Multi Tenant template in the pack with correct tenant ID that should be migrated from source.
    2. Select Multi Tenant export template.
    3. Select nodes that have the data filter applied to them.
    4. Delete the filter and create a similar filter with actual tenant ID in the qualification (for example, tenant_id = '1111').
    5. After applying export filters to all required nodes, run the migration by using the Multi Tenant template.
  12. Complete the following steps for Openfire:
    1. Register the Openfire source and target systems as a relational database.
    2. Discover the Openfire source and 21.05 target systems.
    3. Register file systems.
    4. Copy Openfire pack for the Openfire source and 21.05 target.
    5. Run a migration using the Openfire pack.
    6. Reenable foreign key by clearing the Disable Trigger check box in the target system (select Action > Enable/Disable Triggers).
