Creating a data enrichment definition

Before you begin

Before you create a new data enrichment, you can create a CSV spreadsheet to map data. The spreadsheet must contain the fields that will be used to look up the correct value and the data to be populated. For example, when converting Product Catalog data, the spreadsheet will typically contain the following fields:

  • Original Product Catalog 1
  • Original Product Catalog 2
  • Original Product Catalog 3
  • New Product Catalog 1
  • New Product Catalog 2
  • New Product Catalog 3

Then, you can upload the CSV file if you select Mapping as the Data Enrichment Type as described in the procedure below. BMC Helix Data Manager will read the first row as column headings and convert these automatically to fields associated with your data enrichment. Data enrichment mapping files support up to 20 columns.

To create a new data enrichment

  1. From the navigation menu, select Data Migration > Data Mapping.
  2. Select a migration pack from the list.
  3. Click the Data Enrichment tab.
  4. Click the Create button (+) next to the list of data enrichments to open a wizard.

  5. From the Data Enrichment Type list, select one of the following options:
    • Target Form—Populate values from the target system's data on import.
    • Mapping—Populate values from the data in a CSV.
    • Source Form—Populate values from the source system's data on export.
  6. (Optional) Select Automatically link to formName to create a data enrichment link to the selected form mapping after you have configured the settings.
  7. Click Next.
  8. If you selected Mapping as the data enrichment type:
    1. Enter the name of the data enrichment.
    2. If you are migrating BMC Digital Workplace Catalog from versions prior to 20.08, select the Group Transformation Mapping check box.
The option transforms the Group ID values to the current converged platform types.
    3. Click Choose File, and select a CSV file to upload.
    4. For more information, see Before you begin above.
    5. Click Create Data Enrichment.
  9. If you selected Source Form or Target Form as the data enrichment type:

    1. Select the name of the form from which data will be extracted.
    2. To add a new form, click Add Form, and provide the following details for each form:
      • Form Name—The name of the Form which is added to the data enrichment and from which data may be populated.
      • Joined To Form—Link to any other form already in the set, you may define a Join qualification to this form.
      • Join Qualification—The AR System qualification used to create the join. Click the button to create the qualification.
      • Join Type—You can define an inner or outer join.
Optionally, you can join one or more additional forms. The example shows a Source form data enrichment that is a join of three forms—CTM:People, CTM:People Support Group Association, and CTM:Support Group.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Set the fields from the source forms that will be available to add to a field mapping.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click Create Data Enrichment.

The Info sub-tab under the Data Enrichment tab lists the data enrichments.

  10. (Optional) If you selected Automatically link to formName when you created the data enrichment, click the Link tab and modify the qualification between the source or target form in the selected form mapping and the data enrichment.

The default Link Join Type option is INNER, but you can change it to OUTER.
Optionally, you can select Select First Matching Entry, but this setting can negatively impact performance of data migration operations. (This setting is required if more than record will be returned from the data enrichment data set by the qualification.)
  11. If you are mapping data for Remedyforce and you want to migrate attachments:
    1. Click the Attachment tab, and select the Migrate Attachments check box.
    2. (Optional) If you want to filter which attachments are exported, insert a qualification in the Export Qualification field.
    3. (Optional) If you want to import data to specific attachment fields, select Import to Attachment Field(s), and add the fields on the Attachment Fields tab.
