Analyzing, comparing, and updating data between two systems


Data analysis provides some assistance for optional form analysis. You can also create standard mapping files for such areas as approval data mappings.

To analyze data

  1. Before you begin, import or create data analysis sets.
    BMC provides a default meta data file for this purpose. Contact BMC Support for more information.
  2. Select Discovery & Analysis > System Analysis & Administration.
  3. Select an environment, and click Select.
  4. Click the Data Analysis tab.

  6. Click Discover Data.
  7. In the dialog box, select the data analysis you want to perform.

  8. Click Discover Data.
    You can track the progress on the Discover Requests tab.

  9. To export the data a file to move the data between instances, click the Discovered Data tab, and click Export to File.
    Exporting to a file is useful in a migration to Helix as you might have two separate BMC Helix Data Manager instances.
  10. To compare the data after you have discovered the same data set for two systems, click Review & Compare Data.
    A new window appears with the data.

  11. To view data updates such as post migration scripts, go back to the System Administration page, and click the Data Updates tab.

To perform data updates

  1. Before you begin, import or create data update sets.
    BMC provides a default metadata file for this purpose. Contact BMC Support for more information.
  2. Click the Data Updates tab.
  3. Click the Available Data Updates sub-tab, and click the Data Update Overview tab.

  4. Click Run Data Updates.
