Form to change server settings for approval server


Process administrators use the AP:Admin-ServerSettings form to change server settings for the approval server. To open this form, select Server Settings in the navigation pane of the AP:Administrator form.

Logging Settings

Approval Debug Mode

Select this check box to enable approval server logging.

Log File Name

Type the directory path and file name for the log file.

Note: By default, the arapprov.log file is displayed in the AR server in the AP:Admin-ServerSettings form. The log file is located in the AR server machine at <AR System Installation Directory>\Arserver\Db.

Other Settings

Definition Check Interval

Type a number of seconds to define how often the approval server checks the definitions for changes. A larger number increases BMC Remedy AR System performance by checking less often. A smaller number of seconds is useful while creating and testing a process. A zero (0) in this field causes the system to check for definition changes with each operation.

Note: When testing custom applications, after creating a process, you should wait until the Definition Check Interval period before creating requests. Otherwise, the processing of requests fails, and the following error is written to the logs:

No join between applicationFormName and the approval detail form.

Private AR Server RPC Socket

Type the RPC socket number of a private queue to use when accessing the AR System server. Leave this field empty if you do not use a private queue.

Plugin Loopback RPC Socket

Type the RPC socket number of a private queue used for loopback calls. Leave this field empty if your server does not use a dedicated queue for loopback calls.

Due-Soon Interval

Type the duration after which approval requests that are due for action should be highlighted on Approval Central. Use the adjacent drop-down list to specify whether this duration should be measured in hours or days. This interval is subtracted from the value of the Automatic Action interval defined at the process level. Requests are displayed as Due-Soon approvals on Approval Central. For more information, see Approval Central. For example, if the process states that the automatic action interval for a request is five days, and the Due-Soon Interval is four days, the request appears as a Due-Soon approval for the relevant approver one day before the automatic action is due.

Recent History Interval

Type the duration within which a user can see in the recent history an approval request that was submitted or acted upon. Select the unit of measurement (Hours or Days) using the adjacent drop-down list. This affects My Recent Approvals on Approval Central. See Approval Central.

Save

Save to apply your changes.

Reset

Reset to reload the form with the previously stored values.

Close

Close the form without saving any changes.

Notifications tab

The Notifications tab allows you to enable or disable notifications for various approval server events.

You can specify whether or not to send notifications on the following events:

  • New Signature
  • Error
  • Approve
  • Cancel
  • Reject
  • More Info Return
  • Alternate Approve
  • Reject by /at Later Level
  • Alternate Reject
  • Cancel at Later Level
  • Override Approve
  • Reject by Another Approver
  • Override Reject
  • Hold
  • Global Approve
  • More Info
  • Global Reject
  • Change After Approval / Approved
  • Reassign
  • Before Reassign

When any of these event types occur during an approval process, the approval server acts according to the following choices:

  • Disabled — No notifications are sent.
  • Enabled — Notifications are sent to all the approvers.
  • Enabled Including Alternate (default setting) — Notifications are sent to all the approvers and active alternates.

To use notifications, you must define the specific notifications for each process in the AP:Administration form.

  • Disabled means the approval server disables escalations for this event type during an approval process.
  • Enabled means the approval server enables escalations for the approver list when this event type occurs during an approval process.
  • Enabled Including Alternate (default setting) means the approval server enables escalations to the approver list as well all active alternates when this event type occurs during an approval process.

These settings enable escalations for each event type. To use escalations, you must define the specific escalations for each process in the AP:Process Definition form.
