Escalation log

The escalation log traces escalation activity on the server. It identifies the time an escalation starts, whether it passes the qualification, any actions executed, the time the escalation stops, and the escalation pool.

By default, the log file is named arescl.log. Each line of an escalation log file begins with <ESCL> and includes the time of each escalation transaction.

Escalation logs might have lines that indicate the escalation is going to run in some amount of time. This means the escalation was checked and was found not to require activation at that time.

When an escalation passes, it is reflected in the Escalation logs. The escalation logs are stored in the <Install Directory>\BMC Software\ARSystem\Arserver\Db folder.

Escalation errors in the arerror.log file

Escalation logs are not enabled by default. However, you can view information about the escalation failures, such as cleanup escalations or auto-close escalations by accessing the arerror.log file. On Windows systems, the arerror.log file is stored in the ARSystemInstallDir\arserver\Db directory. On UNIX systems, this file is stored in the ARSystemInstallDir/db directory. 

The arerror.log file also contains details about the failed escalations and the reason for the failure. This information aids in quick troubleshooting of escalation failures without having to enable the escalation logs. 

The following example shows an escalation error in the server error log file:

Tracking escalation overlays

When the server executes an escalation overlay, the escalation log uses the real name of the overlay (<escalationObjectName__o>). It also records the following message:

skipping overlaid object <escalationObjectName>

When overlays are disabled on the server and the server executes an overlaid escalation object, it records  the following message:

skipping overlay object <escalationObjectName>__o
