Creating objects

In addition to the File > New menu, the AR System Navigator provides a direct way to create an object on a specific server or in a specific application.

You can create custom objects in the same way that you create origin AR System server objects, as long as you are in Best Practice Customization mode of Developer Studio.

We recommend that you do not create objects in the Base Development mode.

To create an object on a server

  1. In the server branch, open the All Objects branch.
  2. Right-click the appropriate object type, and select the appropriate New menu command.
    The object editor opens.
  3. Modify the object.
For more information, see Modifying-object-properties and the sections listed in the following table.

    Action

    Reference

Learn to set up the development environment.

Learn to develop the application interface.

    Define workflow to automate processes.

Learn to publish the AR System functionality as a web service.

Learn to create associations to establish a relationship between two or more forms.

Learn to add charts to an application with flashboards.

Learn to configure distributed operations mapping, fields, and pools to transfer data from one form to another.

To create an object in an application

  1. In the Applications branch, right-click the name of the application and select New Object > New objectType.
  2. Complete any initial dialog boxes.
    The object editor opens.
For more information, see Modifying-object-properties and the guides listed in the following table.
For information about creating applications, see Creating-a-deployable-application.
  3. Select File > Save.
The Save objectType As dialog box appears.
  4. Type the name of the object.
Object names must be unique for each AR System. Names can be as many as 80 characters, including spaces.

There are no other restrictions on names, but it is helpful to establish naming conventions for your work and to make names descriptive.

  5. Click OK.

To create a workflow object from the forms object list

  1. Right-click a form in the forms object list.
  2. Select New Workflow > workflowObject.
The workflow objects you can select are:
    • Active Link
    • Filter
    • Escalation
    • Active Link Guide
    • Filter Guide
  3. Enter the information in the workflow object's editor.
For more information about creating workflow, see Defining-workflow-to-automate-processes.
