Converting custom objects to origin objects

You can convert custom objects to origin objects only in Best Practice Customization mode of Developer Studio.

Important

Follow this procedure only if the Best Practice Conversion utility has converted an origin object into a custom object. Other than this, if you follow this procedure, application upgrades will fail and you will not be able to distinguish customizations from original objects.

When converting the following custom objects to origin objects, first convert the related forms and workflow to origin objects, and then convert the objects themselves:

  • Active link guides
  • Filter guides
  • Local applications
  • Deployable applications
  • Packing lists

Important

When an object is converted from a custom object to an origin object, the next AR System server or AR System application upgrade might overwrite the object and all customizations are lost. Also, if you do not convert all the related objects correctly, certain runtime failures might occur.

For example, if a field has a reference to a custom menu and the field and form are converted to origin objects, but the custom menu is not converted, then the menu is not displayed for that field at run time.

To convert a custom object to an origin object

  1. From the Object list, select a custom object.

You can convert multiple objects by pressing the Shift key and selecting the objects from the list.

  2. Right-click the object or objects and select Convert to Base.
  3. When prompted for confirmation, click OK.
If you convert a custom form to an origin form, the AR System server also converts the corresponding views and fields to origin views and fields. However, if required, you must explicitly convert the associated workflow.
You can explicitly convert custom views and fields to origin views and fields.

To convert a custom field to an origin field

  1. Open an overlay form.
  2. On the editor or the Outline tab, select a field on the form.
  3. Right-click the field and select Convert to Base.

    Tip

To verify whether custom fields are converted to origin fields, use the Outline view.

To convert a custom view to an origin view

  1. Open an overlay or custom form.
  2. On the editor, select the custom view.
  3. Choose Form > Convert View to Base.
