Mapping the Data Source alias to an appropriate data source configuration

Administrator can access the data from external applications by creating external record definitions. After creating external record definitions, you must create an alias mapping or connection mapping for the data source that you selected while creating the external record definition. An alias is a placeholder for the data source configurations.

To make sure that users use the appropriate data source configuration when they access data through the external record definitions, you must map the alias with the correct data source configuration. For example, if you want to connect to AR System, you must map the AR System data source alias with its data source configuration.

You should have already configured the data source for AR System with connection and authentication details.

Before you begin

Make sure you have completed the following tasks:

To map the data source alias with the data source configuration

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
  2. Select Integrations > Data sources > Data source mapping.
  3. From the Application list, select the application from which you want to connect to the data source, as displayed in the following image:

    Important

If you have not created the external record definition in any application, the list is blank.

A list of data source aliases that you have configured for the selected application is displayed as a Connection target.

Example: ARSystemServer – is the alias name of the external AR System

  4. In Connection configuration, select the appropriate data source configuration name for the data source alias.
  5. Click Save

The data source alias is mapped with the data source configuration. When the user accesses a record from the external record definition, a connection is established between the application and the data source.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
