Creating a data source connection and data source mapping for knowledge base synchronization

To successfully complete the synchronization process, the synchronization tool must have access to the data in the BMC application from which you want to synchronize knowledge articles. To enable the synchronization tool to retrieve data from BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management, as an administrator, you need to create a data source connection and data source mapping between BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management and BMC Helix Innovation Studio.

You do not need to complete this task for BMC Helix Business Workflows Knowledge Management because all its data is generated and maintained in BMC Helix Innovation Studio. BMC Helix Business Workflows Knowledge Management doesn't have an external data source that must be connected to BMC Helix Innovation Studio.

Before you begin

Make sure that the following conditions are fulfilled before you synchronize the knowledge base from your BMC application to BMC Helix Knowledge Management by ComAround:

Action

BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management

  • BMC Helix Innovation Studio and BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management are installed on the same server instance.
  • You have administrator access to BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management.
  • BMC Helix Innovation Studio can connect to BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management data.

To create a data source connection and data source mapping

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and click Administration
  2. Select Integrations > Data sources > Data source connections.
  3. Create a data source connection.
    1. On the Data source connections page, click New.
The Add new data source configuration dialog is displayed.
    2. On the General tab, specify the following fields:
      1. Name—Enter ITSM Data Source
To avoid errors in synchronization, do not provide any other name to the data source connection.
      2. Type—Select AR System
The data is retrieved from the data source defined in this field.
    3. On the Connection properties tab, specify the fields as described in the following table:

      Data source type

      Connection Properties fields

      Action

      AR System

      Host name

      Enter the platform-user-ext value.

Important: If the data source connection is not created after you enter the platform-user-ext value, enter the exposed IP address or a host name of the AR System server. Contact the BMC Activation team to obtain these values.

      Port

      Enter 46262.

      Authentication

      Select the following supported type:

      • RAS (Remedy Application Service)—Enter the password of the Remedy Application Service User of the external AR System.

Use currently logged in user permissions

Do not select this check box.

  4. Click Save.
  5. Map the data source connection.
    1. On the Administration tab, select Integrations > Data sources > Data source mapping
    2. From the Application list, select comaroundMigation
In Connection target, ITSM Data source is populated automatically.
    3. From the Connection configuration list, select the data source connection that you created earlier.
      For example, ITSM data source.
  6. Click Save
