Configuring a data source

As an administrator, you can leverage data outside BMC Helix Innovation Studio. To leverage external data, you must first configure the data source by specifying the connection and authentication details. BMC Helix Innovation Studio supports two external data source types—Remedy Action Request System (AR System) and Web API data source. The AR System data source type supports the following authentication types:

  • BMC Helix Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO)—Remedy SSO should be the same for BMC Helix Innovation Studio and external AR system, and users should be synced in BMC Helix Innovation Studio from external AR system.
  • Remedy Application Service Password of external AR System—AR System users should be synced in BMC Helix Innovation Studio.

To configure a new data source

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
  2. Select Integrations > Data sources > Data source connections.
  3. On the Data source connections page, click New.
The Add new data source configuration dialog is displayed.
  4. On the General tab, complete the following fields:
    1. Name—Enter an appropriate name for the data source connection, for example, ARS01.

      Important

To avoid errors, do not use the following names for the connector:

      • Web Api
      • AR System
      • ARDBC.PREVIEW
      • ARSYS.ARDBC.CONFIGFILE
      • REMEDY
      • ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION
    2. Type—Select AR System or Web API, depending on your requirement.
The data is retrieved from the data source defined in this field.
  5. On the Connection properties tab, complete the fields as described in the following table:

    Data source type

    Connection Properties fields

    Action

    AR System

    Host name

Enter the host name of the external AR System server.

    Port

    Enter the port number.

    Authentication

Select one of the following supported types:

    • RSSO
    • RAS (Remedy Application Service)
If you select RAS, enter the password of the Remedy Application Service User of the external AR System.

Use currently logged in user permissions

Select the check box if you want to use the logged in user's permissions to access the AR System server.

Best practice: We recommend that you select this check box after the application development is complete.

    Web API

    Web API connection

Select the web API connection that you have created.
For information about web connection, see Configuring-the-authentication-credentials-of-REST-API-web-services.

  6. Click Save.
